I kept E home today because she has a cough, a really runny nose, and she ran a fever last night. The fever has been down all day with no meds, but she still has a bit of a runny nose and cough, plus a ton of eye boogers. Her eyes seem otherwise fine, so I don't suspect pink eye. My class is tomorrow, so I'd really like to take her to daycare. My mom is leaving town, and she's my usual backup. Chances are, nobody will show up to class, since most have agreed to take it online. Since we're still in add/drop period, I've been showing up at the beginning of class, just in case. So, do I take her to daycare and see what they say? Take her to class with me? Try to get a friend to watch her for a couple of hours?

Is there a written policy? My kids have only ever gone to preschool, but I always felt okay about sending a fairly chipper kid who hadn't had a fever in about 24 hours. If you keep them home for every runny nose they'll never go.

Usually the fever needs to be gone for 24 hours with no meds. Otherwise, if she is acting normally, I'd send her.

It just says fever free for 24 hours and no excessively runny noses.

Now I'm all worried about her eyes after Googling. The whites of her eyes aren't red, but she definitely has yellow discharge, and the area around her eyes is a bit red and puffy. Do we need to call the pediatrician? I swear we go to the doctor at least once a month for something or other. I'd like to have one month where we don't have to go in!

It's most likely her nasal passages draining through the eyes. They should clear up once her nose stops running.

My dd did this when she was infant-young toddler every single time she got a cold. We did go to the ped several times bc the daycare center wouldn't allow her back until a ped cleared her for pink eye. After a while, the school stopped fighting us and figured out it wasn't pink eye, it was just part of a cold for dd. *gah*

See, that's what I thought until I started Googling. But I don't know if I can take her to daycare like that.

I would make that decision in the morning, based on how she looks then.

That's what I figured. If it looks just as bad as it did today, I guess I can call the pediatrician in the morning.

The pediatrician wanted to see her, so we went in this afternoon. She thought it looked like an ear infection, but her ears were clear. She prescribed a short steroid for her stridor and antibiotic drops for her eyes, although I just tried to pick those up, and they were over $100, so I left a message asking for an alternative. She said she'd probably keep her home another day, but she wrote a note saying she could go back tomorrow.

Her eyes look really rough, and she's still hoarse and coughing, but she's acting like she feels totally fine.

Did she ever have a fever?
                            Is it allergies?

She had a fever Monday night. Don't think it's allergies unless I have them too.
