And we've dealt with a similar issue. DD1 got her nose pierced several months ago. She was 18, paid for it herself, and researched the hell out of the shop and all of their piercers and tattoo artists. It wasn't a huge deal to me.

At least it's not on her hands or neck! It's not bad as tattoos on your 18-year-old daughter could go.

I pierced my lip my first weekend at college. My parents STILL talk about it....my piercing, my tattoos, my blue hair.

FWIW, "just keep breathing" is better than "keep on breathing." And it reminds me of Finding Nemo's "just keep swimming" which is what got me through D's NICU stay. I know it's not what you wanted for her, but maybe it's helping her ground herself.

I remember when my mom cleaned out my messy car when I was home one weekend and found my tattoo consent form. She freaked and I drove a way as fast as I could! I got a small flower below my belly button. Thankfully it was cut out after a c section. DH actually cut one of his own out in the office and stitched himself back together. He has a large one on his shoulder he hates now. The kids know we both had and regretted them. It will be interesting to see what they choose. I think they need to develops some really good temps that last for a month or so.

I like her message and and choice though. It's better than boner garage.

Aww hugs Kris. I know it's not what you wanted or perhaps expected for her, but you raised a very bright young lady who (based on the quality of the script, the easy-to-disguise location and the implied significance of the phrase) did not make this decision lightly. Tattoos have far fewer social stigmas now than they did in previous generations. No longer markers of gangs or lower classes, people in quite literally all walks of life have them.

And thank goodness it doesn't say boner garage lol

Yup, this — but I totally get why you're upset and it's valid.

At least it's easy to cover with socks, pants, tights (small consolation, I know)...

My dd18 pretty much got a nose ring first thing. Dh and I were pretty adamant about it (anti nose ring) but she used her own money and we aren't going to war over it.

Tattoo will most certainly come next. All the girls on her floor have tats (thre are only 4 girls lol) so I said, "oh I see you just want to be exactly like everyone else. Why not be a rebel and be unique and NOT get a tat?"

She's probably just waiting to start her job and get a paycheck before she gets one.

They are EVERYWHERE here in hawaii. Almost every MOM on the swim team has a visible tat. I almost want to get one but there's nothing I would want to write. Maybe little shapes for my five kiddos but I don't know what.

I know. Not helpful. But kris, let's meet up and get tats together!!! Lol!!!!!

Tats are totally normal now. I live in a pretty conservative suburb and I'd say I know ten PTO moms with tattoos.

We were at a Billy Bragg show recently and he was talking about playing Riotfest in Chicago the night before.

He said the most rebellious thing a punk rocker could do these days is not get a tattoo...

My kid keeps teasing me that he'd get a face tattoo if he wanted to piss me off. You have to go for something like THAT to really worry.

I like her choice of words as well. If she likes it, meh. It's on her ankle. It's her journey right? Juuuuust keep breathing, momma.
