Probably totally wrong and I'm embarrassed to say but we are a full fat family. I think there was a study a while back that recommended whole milk was healthier overall and we went with it. I feel like no matter what you will be doing something wrong. I strive to try not to feed my family as many processed foods and not get too worked up about any one thing. That said my kids (and I) love boxed mac and cheese which I will now feel even more guilty about. We did switch to Pyrex for food storage and bpa free water bottles.

My kids do whole, hubby and I drink skim, although I very rarely drink milk at all now, and neither does E. She has yogurt every day though. She's tiny, so we always wanted the fat. C isn't tiny, but weight was a concern for so long, it seems best still. He needs to be about 33lbs in the next couple of years before he has his next surgery, and he's about 22lbs now. E is only 27lbs.

I also hate drinking from metal, so while I try to drink from glass, the kids drink from plastic.

This is where I am at this point, almost exactly. DH and I kind of give the side eye to most nutrition science at this point--how can you not when it literally contradicts itself every few years? Or at least to what it is boiled down to in the headlines. Occasionally I will go take a look at the study abstract itself and it is never as black and white (or usually significant) as it is made out to be.

Civilspouse, we are a whole milk family, too. We don't do low fat milk or cheese or yogurt. E is small so she can use the fat and I have found it has really helped better regulate my PCOS symptoms. I tried to switch back to skim for one month and my cycle immediately went wonky so I haven't gone back. I've still had successful weightless even with the full fat so, meh.

Also, meh on the Mac and cheese. I'm confident I'm screwing her up three hundred different ways so I just can't do it all. Mac and cheese is life at this stage so that's what she gets. I may consider making homemade in the instant pot a bit more often though.

We are a whole family too. I feel like my kids are the opposite though. They won't eat Mac and cheese or PBJ sandwiches. They won't eat chicken nuggets. They literally want baked chicken/rotisserie chicken with steamed rice and broccoli or peas. If it's not that is spaghetti with meatballs. Or rice with black beans and sour cream. I use think Baby for sippy cups but recently bought a metal one but they are big breakfast eaters. Waffles, eggs and bacon or pancakes. Sometimes I just want to make them some Mac and cheese or buy drive through somewhere and they rather starve.
My sister tells me not to complain and I try not to but I'm cooking literally every day unless I make rice for leftovers but we eat whole milk, yogurts, dairy. Nothing fat free

As a side note- we just started getting milk delivery from a local farm. It is seriously the best tasting milk I've ever tasted! Home delivery customers get the milk around 12 hours out of the cow. My kids do whole milk for now, but they've only recently been cleared to have dairy (after outgrowing anaphylactic dairy allergies) so we're playing catch up on calcium and fat intake.

Curious, is it pasteurized? There are farms around here that do this too.

Oh, yes, very much so. Pasteurized and homogenized, bottled in glass bottles and loaded in the truck for delivery. They're also sold in most of the grocery stores around here. (I have an MPH, I get so many public health alerts about unpasteurized milk. Blech.)

Ah, I forgot you had an MPH. Of course it's pasteurized! A lot of the Amish and Mennonite farms around here sell raw milk so I wondered. Still, I think I'll do a little digging. I might find somewhere.

I thought I had read that non-homogenized was better.... it was months ago, perhaps it's out again. 🙃

You could be right, I was far more concerned with pasteurization. I haven't seen many non-homogenized options in my area, unless it's totally unprocessed. I suspect the farm does it because that's what most people are accustomed to, but that's pure speculation.

I honestly have no idea anymore. I can't keep up anymore. This toddler stage is so intense for me. Right now I'm just happy I usually remember to buy it!

I've been giving non - homogenized to them more often - we have two local options (neither deliver - but honestly it's so hot, that I don't mind. We had milk delivered when I was a kid - was adorable and quaint. Would be boiling at our house now!). Anyway both are pasteurized, but one is organic and non-homogenized. The other -more local- "all natural" and homogenized. I go with the first option as long as expiration dates work....

JDAZ11 I hear you on the toddler stage! Those are awesome options you've got. I admit, I opt for delivery because it saves me a trip to the store with 3 kids. I have to put out the cooler with ice, but I worry about the heat.
