  • signed up for montessori

Well, I took the plunge and signed ds#1 up for montessori today. We visited several schools in the area (both traditional and montessori), and I think this one will be a good fit. It's a bit of a haul, though (15-20 min), so I hope I still feel this way in a few months.

The traditional school was closer to us (still about 10 - 15 min away), so if the drive gets to me, I can make it a BIT better.

I'm hopeful about how Jacob will do in montessori - I think it will really suit him. Also, I took the "shop around" advice (from Kelly?) to heart, and that paid off. The first "montessori" I went to had a director who used really poor grammar "Poor thing, he don't got no ..." I cringed, and left.

    Fingers crossed!

I'm glad you were able to settle on something--how often will Jacob be going?
I've been driving my kids over to a PDO in Johnson County (about 20 mintues away) for 2 years and have signed Sydney and Mitchell up again next year. I love the program so the drive has never bothered me at all. We just got into the routine of leaving the house 30 minutes before we needed to be there so we didn't feel rushed in the morning.
    Awake is the new sleep!

      Jenn,

I truly hope that you will be as happy with it as I am. (fingers crossed). It has done wonders in our household.

Now get ready for questions like: Do you live in a commune? Is that a religious thing? While montessori is gaining ground, there are still a lot of stereotypes with it. I even just discussed this with DS's teacher. Some montessorians can be pretty strict about the pedagogy, so I've always been hesitant about volunteering. She said that like anything, schools and teachers run the gammut, but she invited me to help out with the Spanish curriculum and to be the room parent. I accepted on both accounts.

Anyway, best of luck. It is a really exciting time to watch your child develop and grow.

Our daughter is in montessori during the year, and is in a "traditional" half day camp program for the summer. I CAN'T WAIT for her to go back to school - and I think she can't either.
