Just thought I'd share one of those classic mother in law stories... So my mother in law is actually a real sweetheart and she and I are very close (amazing, I know) but occasionally we hit some awkward moments thanks to cultural differences (she's Indian, I'm not).
She's very excited about the fact that I've recently started feeding the baby solid food. And by started I mean we've introduced rice/oat cereal and apple sauce last week, next week we'll try another fruit or something, etc. Taking it slow.
So today when she came to babysit she excitedly announced to me that next week when she comes to babysit she's going to make a lentil, onion, and chicken mash for the baby to eat cause she's sure she'll like that.
When she said it I think I actually did a double take and was like - "Wait, what?? No no no no... no protein, she's not ready for that yet. I think next week we'll try pears or something, okay?"
She's so sweet and well intentioned and so excited to feed the baby, I actually felt bad telling her no. But seriously, it makes me a little nervous that she would be that clueless about something.
