Oh and I found it really hard to bake when BabyK was about 7 months. He's start to wail right when I had to take the cookies out of the oven.

This is nice in theory but once they hit school age and you are driving to after school activities during and beyond dinner time snacks in the car become a necessity

I hope this doesn't sound mean because it's not meant to. I wouldn't say anything to the friend. You don't have to buy those things from her registry if you don't want to. Maybe she hasn't learned yet. Maybe the items are genuinely useful (I'm pretty sure I'd want that timer). She's probably a ball of emotions and hormones right now. She doesn't need to have her judgment questioned, especially over something as silly as this. I get flustered when I am asked to explain why I need a food processor. I can't imagine how a pregnant woman would react when asked to justify the need for a seemingly superfluous item that she chose to add to her registry.

I don't think it sounds mean, at all. I'm sure some of my favorite gadgets would be considered useless space wasters by someone else.

Generally speaking, baby gear is like kitchen appliances, clothing, cleaning supplies, cosmetics, etc. One woman's necessity is another woman's clutter.

We have leather seats in the new car - I just wanted to know if there's something I can put between the seat and the car seat to protect it from rubbing or indentations.

Yeah, I'm with Suzy, car seats are safety tested under specific circumstances. Nothing that isn't manufacturer-approved should come between baby and seat or between seat and car. Nothing is going to stop the car seat from making an indentation if it's securely installed, anyway. You want that thing jammed deep into the car's cushion. The foam *should* bounce back once the seat is out for a few hours.

No seat covers here either due to not wanting to compromise the integrity of the car seat. I used to have the no snack rule and we usually don't eat snacks in the car, but like Tara said when your kids are in activities and you have to be in three places at once, there will be eating in the car. Also, when we have driven across country, we drive in 18 hour stretches. There is eating in the car.

And the baby timer.... our friends had twins and she was strictly bf. I thought that a gadget like that would be handy in that type of situation.

Wipe warmer. We had one with DS1, it has been in the box since then. It made me nervous, I honestly think it's a fire hazard. The wipes at the bottom get all dry and crispy. And does a baby really need a warm wipe? Do we need warm wipes to wipe our bums? They just deal when you're out and about. They can deal when they're at home. Just another ploy to get people to waste money. I'm all about the bare essentials. And If I'm going to waste money I'm going to do on it something that is at least unique, cute and fun.

This is so true. And... every baby is different and may or may not need/want the baby gear you purchase.

Yup! To this day we still use the baby wipe warmer DH wanted for DS1.
My kids eat in the car all the time! Thank goodness for leather seats.

I would have loved to have had one of those timers when I had my first. I was so scatter brained I had no idea when I had changed her last, etc. But alas it did not exist then and I couldn't justify buying it for #2 knowing he was our last.

I totally agree that one mom will love something and one will hate it - even goes by the kid. A LOVED her bouncy chair, R could have cared less!

As for no snacks in the car, that lasted until our first trip anywhere over an hour now we could probably live out of my car for at least a day if disaster struck! I so need to have it cleaned/detailed.

Wildfin, I'm glad you asked about this. I had no idea that seat covers were a no, no. Hope no one purchased it off my registry.

The Wet Okole ones are custom made for each car make and model and fit really snugly on the seat. I had my car seats inspected in Dallas and the two technicians said nothing about the covers....I honestly think they didn't even notice bc they cover the entire upholstery of the seat and look like they are factory. The technicians dd however convince me to remove the mirrors for seeing my rear facing kids. :/. The straps aren't crash tested and the mirror could become a projectile in an accident.

My cat did in my car upholstry- I think the car was about 4 days old and I took the diabetic cat to the vet and of course she peed all over everything. and now? I'm pretty sure that when the time comes to trade it in, they will make us pay them. Crayons melt in San Antonio winters; you should see what happens in the summer. We have multicolored fabric now.

We were never allowed to eat in the car growing up but lo and behold- the grandparents always bring snacks for 'the boys' lest they starve...
