As far as the milk, I'm very surprised your ped hasn't recommending cutting it back yet. Mine always did at about 18 months or so-- my kids were big milk drinkers. I only allow milk at meals and I only allow water in between-- starting at about 18 months.

As far as the diaper-- that sucks. Usually when that happened I would bump up to the next size. But sounds like you are there already. My sister did use the good nights pull ups with success for her son.

I just keep thinking of Cheri and R's frankendiaper. I wish I knew. DS leaks through his almost every night. I have to change him about every 1.5 hours during the day. He's a heavy drinker...

Ok, I'm kinda freaking out about this milk thing. Are you sure the recommendation is 24 oz daily? That would be three 8oz bottles daily if he were drinking from a bottle. I just measured his sippy cup. It holds 12oz and he refills it at least once at every meal. So, he's drinking at least 24 oz at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. That's 72 oz right there. And that doesn't include snacks twice daily.

I'm pretty sure that is to much. When I took R in for his 2 year check up last month, she said 32oz MAX!

Yikes! Just called the ped. Although I've always told him how much milk BabyK drinks, he didn't have it noted in his chart. I guess he didn't believe me or he thought I was reporting a daily total rather than per meal total. He says I need to cut him back to 24 oz daily even if it means putting a lock on the fridge. This is gonna be a rough week.

Will he not drink water? Maybe you mentioned that and I missed it. R only gets milk at meals and then only one glass, if he drains it and wants more he gets water. I'm sorry - R would drink it non stop as well if I let him. I hope he transitions quickly.

Can you taper him off, by giving him watered down milk?

He only drinks water when milk is not available. Throughout the day, he asks for milk and will even bring us the jug from the fridge. I have told him at times that he has had enough milk and may have water. He refuses the water. I never knew this was a problem. The ped was never concerned.

I wonder about this. Is there anything behind his extreme desire for milk? It strikes me as odd that he would want that much. I'm just thinking "out loud", I don't want you to freak out about it.

How does he do with a cup? My kids don't drink milk so my advice is obviously limited in this....but they ONLY get water in sippy cups. If they get juice or the occasional cup of milk, they drink it in a regular cup. Because the sippy cups only have water, I don't worry about losing one under the couch and it rotting.

If I was trying to transition in your situation, I would cut out milk at non-meals first. Let him have the two cups at meals, but not at snacks and not randomly during the day. Maybe use the big boy cup as an enticement...only drink our milk from a big boy cup from now on. Then always have a water bottle available. Maybe get brand new sippy cups/water bottles to make it new and exciting. Anyway. Just a thought.

I've read a theory that milk and dairy cause an opiate like response in the brain and that people can become addicted to the sensation.

My brother said that his kids drank so much milk at this age that he thought they were diabetic. They were fine.

I only let him eat/drink at the table. He uses a sippy at home, open cup at school. They only give him 2oz at a time at school because they are getting him used to the cup.

Who woulda thunk? I'm so upset! You'd think I was feeding him grape soda!
