Our dd wouldn't sleep without a blanket from about 4 months. The twins slept together (swaddled together at first, then side by side) and they didn't suffocate each other.

There are too many things to worry about with babies and sleeping!! Try not to let your mind go to the worst case if possible! I would have no problem with the lovey though. If it helps her sleep, that's great!

BabyK has two loveys like that. We alternate them and he usually likes them equally. He's always had it in his crib but didn't start cuddling up to it until he was about 6 months.

What's a lovie? I think I could use to sleep with a lovie...but then, DH has been on-call for a zillion nights in a row...

Re: blankets--I never really use blankets in the crib. The kids just kicked them off. I dressed them to be comfortable in the room temperature.

Re: stuff animals--I guess I always had one or two small stuffed animals in the crib, in the corner. I don't remember when the kids were newborns. No real reason to put anything in a newborn's crib.

Cute, kinda-related story: a couple of months ago, DS and DD1 got up early on a Saturday. I heard them moving about, but they were being so quiet, I didn't think about it. About a half-hour later, I heard TONS of giggling coming from the dining room, where DD2 sleeps. I went in to investigate. EVERY SINGLE STUFFED ANIMAL all the kids had was piled into the crib. DD2's little smiling face was poking out. Apparently, the kids thought Matilda needed a few friends in her crib...

DD has a washable elephant and a small lovey. She's been sleeping with them for a while now, may be since 7-8 months. In the winter I had her in sleep sacks since she moves around so much, there's no point in a blanket. I will have to introduce blankets this fall though since she was already in L sleep sacks last winter.
