Cloth Diapering?

Gotcha. Though after the great poop of 4 am, I'm not quite as enamored. Didn't leak too badly, but I'm not going to be too happy having the remnants to deal with in the morning.

I loved the prefolds from Green Mountain Diapers. We just used a variety of covers (don't remember brand right now, will check tomorrow). While I liked the BumGenius initially I don't think they held up as well as the basic prefolds do.

Ditto. And they're less $$$.
We use Thirsties Duo Wraps with snaps instead of Velcro.

I used gdaipers for two months then switched to fully cloth. The disposable inserts are way expensive and in an older house I wasn't flushing the inserts. The gdiapers were cute, but I am so glad we switched to cloth instead.

We love bum genius 4.0s w/snaps (the Velcro wore out quickly and the company replaced them for us). Never tried g-diapers or hybrids, but I'd guess Michele is right.

And-- you need a good setup to deal w/the dirties to be laundered, then it really isn't too bad.

Full Cloth isn't an option until we move and current washing machine is out of the picture DH also isn't on board with all cloth and I don't want to do anything to discourage him from changing diapers! He does the overnight ones and a good portion of the daytime ones when he is home now.

I haven't ever used gdiapers, but I reuse my covers all the time with my prefolds. It should be just fine. I agree about rotating them to let them dry out.

As far as the poop, you might consider a diaper sprayer for your toilet. It's great for the covers, and for clothes when you have the inevitable blowouts. Also, our toilet is close to our tub, so I use it to rinse the tub after cleaning it.

the problem with the gdiapers is that the "cover" is cloth as in cotton like a tee shirt. then there is a liner that snaps into the cover. the insert [disposable or cloth] then goes into the liner. i often experienced the rims of the liners getting wet or poopy from those lovely breastmilk bms thus resulting in the cloth cover getting wet. with cloth diaper covers they are typically made of pul and you can just wipe them down and move on your way. when i used gdiapers, i had at least 8 covers and twice as many liners. and i hate how they "snapped" in the back instead of the front. DH hated the gdiapers and was actually relieved when I switched to cloth. even with using prefolds and covers, then fitted and covers, the ease of use was so much better than gdiapers. The baby I watch uses bum genius and those are nice. if you are strictly nursing, you do not need to rinse your diapers/liners/covers because breastmilk bms are water soluble. i washed every 48 hours, one load, easy peasy. i have had friends cloth diaper and use the laundry mat [and both of the parents worked full time]. if you really want to, you can find a way to make it work. i hope there is a hybrid out there that works for you. in my experience the gdiapers were a pain that i endured for 2 months until i discovered the wonderful world of cloth diapering!!!!

I have an update:

We used up our last disposable insert a few days ago and I'm giving up. It's just too much right now. I spent an freakin' HOUR folding laundry last night trying to catch up and I cannot imagine adding full cloth or even the gDiapers back in. I actually did like how they fit, but the washing, stuffing, etc got time-consuming, especially when she went on a pooping spree.

I bought almost all of them used and still spent $150-$200 building up my stash. Then I started doing disposables for daytime care because I didn't want to have vgirl or my mom dealing with them (vgirl deals with enough poop as it is! ). DH was begrudgingly on board, but half the time put her in a disposable when he changed the diaper anyway. I didn't like using gDiapers out of the house, so she was wearing disposables out in public. So I was basically only using them at home in the evenings and on weekends and it just wasn't worth the cost and time. I may keep one or two covers to put over diapers though--they are much cuter in pictures)

I applaud you all who make it work because I just don't know how you do it!
