It's an all night breastuarant here with Phe lately. I'm really nervous about leaving her for 5 days. I'm thinking I need to start pumping (for my 16 month old!). She won't drink cows milk and she's stopped eating much in the way of solids.

Whoop! She gained 11 freakin ounces in 6 days. Now I can finally back off a bit. Well...when the growth spurt ends

That's awesome. Sometimes it just takes a bit long for baby to become really efficient at nursing. I'm so glad it is going better, the whole thing can be really stressful.

Well, I wouldn't say SHE'S efficient...we are at shoving it down her throat via breast and bottle. We saw the LC again today to follow up and see if we could work on her awful (painful for me) latch. The good news is she pretty much ruled out tongue tie, but that is sort of the bad news too. She has one if the tightest latches the LC has ever seen with no obvious cause. So yeah...we might try the therapy again but otherwise I'm not sure what to do except hope she grows out of it and deal with the pain and long feedings in the meantime.

Oh no, I was almost hoping it was tongue tie, for your sake. It was so painful, but almost immediate relief after clipping it. I hope the therapy helps soon!

It sounded like that therapy worked wonders the first time. I wonder if doing it repeatedly would help her relearn to latch? Also I wonder if her hunger during the growth spurt was making her frantic and therefore she was latching harder?

ST, I am so proud of you! It's definitely a steep learning curve, and you are handling this whole thing with so much more grace than I ever did.

Well the therapy got her to latch when she wasn't at all w/out the shield before, but it was never a good one. I'm considering doing more with a different provider for a couple of reasons, but it is pricy and far away. DH has also decided to become skeptical for whatever reason now (prob because the new rec person is a massage therapist and also does homeopathic stuff in addition to this and that makes her incompetent and a quack in his book). He says, well it's not that she can't open her jaw, she just won't. Yeah, that would be the problem dude...now how do we fix it beforehand damn nipples fall off!

We did notice she is way better when she is calm, but that really only means no nipple shield so far.

A...might take you up on the Breast Whisperer

Gah...my supply dropped for some unknown reason today. I'm out of stored milk and I cannot keep up with her. She's crying right now because she is hungry, but I've got nothing because I just fed her and pumped. (she ate everything I pumped)

Today I've pumped 3 times, including a "power hour" (12 min on/off for an hour), downed Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle, ate oatmeal for breakfast and oatmeal cookies, and I'm currently choking down a Guinness, which sounded good a few months ago but is just as nasty as I remember now.

The milkman better show up tomorrow.

Have some ice cream or a milkshake and drink lots of water and try to get some rest.
