Thanks ladies. I'm checking out all these suggestions. TigerLily, I'd consider SC but in May wouldn't the water still be pretty cold? Our vacation is the first week of May.

Cape Cod is definitely too cold in May. We took DD to Clearwater Beach in Dec (she was almost 2), it was a 3hr flight for us and she did great. We rented a small bungalow with a heated pool and laundry and it was very easy. I found the area to be super kid friendly. The renting company that manages the bungalow community had a pack-n-play and a high chair for her and we brought her carseat on the plane. Let me know if you have any questions regarding Clearwater Beach.

Oh, yeah -- Cape Cod is NOT warm in May, at all. But Provincetown a really fun place, regardless of weather. Sorry, I'm from the PNW. We don't really associate beaches with warmth.

We went in April, and the weather was perfect. On the warm side of perfect. 80s I think. As far as the water goes, I must admit I didn't step foot into the actual ocean. We walked on the beach a lot, but mostly swam in the pool. Which was nice and warm.

I think Florida is a better, cheaper, and safer bet than Mexico right now. I recommend Hilton Head, SC to go along with Tiger Lily's suggestion of Folly Beach. Nice big beaches, the water is nice, and there are lots of things to do besides the beach.

I would also suggest a "staycation" of sorts: the Shore. However, I know the weather in May can be hit-or-miss and the ocean temps aren't really warm, but it is shoulder season on the rentals and you could get a good deal for a place closer to the beach. I like Ocean City and Stone Harbor/Avalon - lots to do in OC and it's family friendly, Stone Harbor/Avalon is a little more laid back, but nice and quiet with a cute little main drag.

I have to admit that I think the ocean here in St Aug is too cold for me right now. I can stick my feet in for a few minutes but all swimming and surfing needs a wetsuit. It is still just the end of March, but despite a warmer winter it still isn't warm yet. The weather though is absolutely beautiful!!!
