I would consider A a pre-walker. She stands a lot and walks around the couch or with you if she is holding on. When do I need to get her shoes? Do I wait until she's actually walking or is it better to get her used to them?

Before they walked, my boys mostly wore socks or went barefoot. Once walking, I got the first walking shoes by pedipeds for K1 and the first walking shoes from striderite for K1 (wider feet didn't fit in pedipeds). They still wear just socks at home to minimize roughhousing injuries.

We started with soft-soled See Kai Runs (like moccasins) and progressed up through the SKR stages as dd improved.

We didn't do shoes unless in public and then they only wore those little flexible moccasin shoes. You get a lot of feedback through the soles of your feet so I think it aides in learning to walk, as well as developing foot strength.

This is what our ped told me. DS is barefooted almost all the time.

We didn't really do shoes until A started walking in public. I love Robeez mini shoes. They are soft and light weight and super duper cute.

We also did Robeez until they needed something to walk around outside in mud or snow.
