Must-haves for babies?

My dd was born almost 5 years ago. What are must-haves now for newborns and infants?

Dh and I are gadget heads, and new baby gear helps us get through the sleepless nights.

It's pretty much the same. I was disappointed that there was so little to buy when my second was born.

A boob, clean diapers, some clothes, a carrier of some sort, and a swing that plugs into the wall that rocks at a violent pace.

We didn't buy a lot of baby gear but the things we really like are:

- Peg Perego Switch Four travel system. It's a click and go so not bulky. We used the bassinet and stand as his bed for 6 weeks and still use it during the day for napping. The bassinet is also great for walks as he hates being in the carseat for long. Well worth the money!

- BabyBjorn bouncer. He loves it and it's easy to clean.

- DH got the following mobile and books on amazon. They're especially for newborns and DS loves looking at them.

- Dr Browns bottles, microwave steam sterilizer and pacifier. Love their products.

- Not baby gear but DS loves looking at lights and is especially enamored with this black and white striped lampshade we have. He can spend a long time just sitting in his bouncer looking at it.

- Wipe warmer. Kid hates cold wipes.

We have a few more things we haven't used yet.

Most are nothing new but I just thought I'd throw them out there.

Check out 4moms. They're the company that makes the mamaroo and they have a bunch of new products coming out next year. Definitely not necessary, but lots of fun if you're into tech.

We have a couple of strollers, unfortunately. . One is a Bugaboo and is terrible on hills and rougher terrain like what we've got here. For the Bay Area it was perfect. We got a City Mini and that has worked out well here.

I think we'll try out the Mamaroo. Dd hated rockers and swings, so I won't get one until the baby is here, and return it if AB2 doesn't like it either.

I don't like wearing babies either. Dh has a BabyBjörn that he likes, so he can use it again. Carriers just made me so uncomfortably hot and sweaty and unhappy. I'm a shitty mom that way--kicking baby out of our room at 3 months and never wearing it.

What about the nose frida?

We love the nose frida, works very well. Shotblocker for vaccinations (it's awesome). Total Baby app.
Wouldn't know about baby foods/tech bc ds just eats normal food sans teeth.
I loved wearing ds bc it gives me 2 hands to attend to dd if necessary. Food for thought. I use an ergo.
We didn't get a baby shower with ds and we didn't splurge on stuff.
Some of the new, fancy movement baby monitors are being recalled, so be careful there.
Cloth diapers- really like Bum Genius 4.0 with snaps. Ds is wearing dd's old stash...pink & all.

Yes to the nose frida! It's awesome. I've also heard good things about the electric snot suckers.

We loved the wipe warmer, too. I can't remember if you use cloth or disposable diapers. I've used both kinds of wipes in my warmer.

For toys, I love anything v-tech if you can stand the noise. They seemed to keep the kids entertained longer than most things.

FYI - New recommendations are no crib bumpers, not even mesh.

Thanks! That's good info to have about the recalls and crib bumpers. I appreciate it.

I'll get a nose frida for sure based on what you say. We spent many a night in the wee hours with saline and that snot sucker that would make dd's head almost explode in anger.

Dd goes to school 3 blocks away from where we live, so I'm thinking a carrier is probably what makes the most sense for drop-offs and pick ups during the few months they coincide with naptime.

We did cloth diapers until we just about drowned in dirty ones. I couldn't keep up with laundry post c-section, and then got used to disposables. So, I sold all but a few of my BumGenius diapers. They're probably 1st generation ones. Lol.

They make formula Kuerig type machines now We have a "security cam" as our video monitor. Not new, but I love our Homedics white noise machine.

I did a drive by earlier, but I couldn't really think of anything that was a lifesaver other than those items. I do love our Snap N Go stroller that works with the infant car seat, though. I'll add that!

I also love the nosefrida. DH won't touch it.

We have the mamaroo. I think it's very kid dependent.

Cute carseat covers (over the carrier) seem to be a newish trend.
