Gaining Weight

She gained 11oz in 2 weeks! We're supposed to keep doing what we're doing - giving her as much milk (or formula if I run out of milk) as she'll take. We also may start some rice cereal next weekend when hubby's home. And my supply is definitely increasing, although I'm SUPER sleepy.

I bet you will be able to slow down the crazy pumping too as she eats more solids!

I think I need to stop the reglan. Couldn't focus at work and just wanted to sleep all night at home. Dysfunctional mommy is no good no matter how much milk she has, especially when daddy is working night float.

I've heard there can be side effects from the Reglan. I almost took that when DD was a newborn, but I managed to increase supply with More Milk Plus and lots of nursing. My DD was slow to gain weight in the first few weeks, so I am familiar with the pressures of nursing/weight gain/etc. I was so fortunate to be a SAHM, so I didn't need to pump and send bottles. I never responded all that well to a pump, so I know for sure I wouldn't have been able to pump enough bottles if I worked. I applaud anyone who works and pumps -- it's so hard. What ended up working to get my DD's weight up at the beginning was to literally nurse her every hour. I think she may have had poor milk transfer to begin with, so she wasn't stimulating my supply very well.

Is there anyway you can get the Domperidone? I wonder if your supply might stay a bit higher even after stopping the Reglan. I'd heard that sometimes just a kick start to get the supply up is all that's needed. Anyway, you're doing a great job, and even if your supply goes down after stopping the Reglan, it's the right choice if you are experiencing negative side effects.

Remind me -- your LO sleeps through the night, right? I know my babies got a lot of their calories overnight especially as they got older and didn't want to nurse as much or as long during the day. They kinda reversed cycled on me. It was exhausting! If she's sleeping through the night, I can see how she might need bigger bottles during the day. I know you were trying to avoid formula and didn't want to start solids too soon. But, I think either option would be fine in the end. Have you tried to just nurse more often when you are together? I know it's hard when you are also trying to pump bottles. Anyway, you are doing awesome -- keep us posted.

Gaining Weight

Reglan can have serious side effects - my brother took it for quite a while. Usually they're associated with long term use but they can be irreversible.

If you're having size effects, I would stop immediately and switch to formula or another drug.

She hasnt slept through the night for a couple of months now. I'm giving it one more day, since hubby is home to help. Supply is supposed to stay up once it's up, regardless of how long you take the meds. I'm only supposed to take it for 2 weeks. I've been on the supplements, and I don't think they helped much. Fortunately I do pretty well with the pump, but I am cluster feeding when I'm home instead of pumping as much.

Skipped the lunch dose and I feel better already. I'm done with this. E and I both have upset stomachs, and I'm afraid it was causing that too. No amount of extra milk is worth feeling this terrible.

Good call! Formula is just fine if she ends up needing it as a supplement. You are an awesome Mommy!

Even just being on it a few days bumped my supply, so I'm still hopeful that we won't need the formula, but I'm willing to accept that I did everything else possible at this point. I feel so much better tonight. I even took a pregnancy test just to make sure it wasn't that! And, that's the 3rd test I've taken since I had E, which is funny given my responses in the dry spell thread...

Haha I took pregnancy tests all the time while nursing. As much as I loved not having a period, the monthly confirmation is nice...

I think you're making the right call! And I forgot what you said regarding birth control but taking anything hormonal can diminish your supply.

We aren't using anything right now given my history of not ovulating. Though watch me end up pregnant because of that (we want more so it's not a big deal).

I feel human again today! Tomorrow at work we'll see what my supply looks like, but it's only a 3 day work week thanks to Easter break.
