I tethered mine to the back when I had my nephew. Once we got used to the straps being there they didn't seem to get in the way as much.

I figured out the tether, just need to figure out the incline now. I'll be traveling with the infant seat until she grows out of that thing, since it's so much easier to install!

When the kids were rear facing, we tethered to the point where the front seat attached to the frame of the vehicle. There was a plastic cover that needed to be popped off, but, otherwise it was really easy. It was the only way to get the seat level, so it was installed properly.

Same here. We tether to the track for the front seat. I think in the manual it talks about how it has to be something that is bolted to the frame of the car. We have a boulevard and I think it has to be all the way reclined for rear facing but they are still pretty upright. The tether alway seems to help get the angle of the seat right. Good luck.

Ugh! Now I need to re-read the manual on the new seat to make sure that Starfish is properly installed...

Apparently I already had it all the way reclined. I was thinking any further would be a bit much!

Not all seats even allow rear-facing tethering. Our Evenflo in DH's car doesn't. As always, do what the manual says.

I decided I'd rather have the seat on the passenger side. I use the seat on the driver side to put my work bag and pump, and I'd have to put it in the trunk or on the passenger side if the seat is there, which is way more inconvenient than having to put her in on that side, especially when she's not actually with me.

I went and had E's car seat inspected today, and they convinced me to put her in the middle, so they took the seat out and totally reinstalled it for me. It's inconvenient, and I had to rush there after work, but I love that I can have that done for free, and I feel good with E in the seat now. We may borrow the seat my mom bought for her car for our road trip this weekend in hubby's car, since we didn't buy one for him yet, and I don't want to take this one out of my car now that it's all safe and secure!

Was just thinking about this today. If I could go back, I'd have bought a Radian and that's it--well maybe a carrier too because they are useful for the first 4 months before my kids outgrow them and are probably useful for others longer. But I wouldn't have bought the Britax ones. I like the Britax seats, but I could have saved money by just having N go straight from the carrier to the radian. She is nearing the height limit on the Britax in the nanny's car now. Luckily Baby J will get use out of it, but for anyone else in the car seat market right now, considering just shelling out for the Radian up front vs having to replace the convertible car seat a few years down the road.

My car seat "stable" currently includes:

A Graco carrier (that I hate, but we only use it for a few months with each kid, so I'm just going to keep using with new babies it til it expires)
                      Britax Boulevard
                      Britax Marathon
                      Diono Radian RXT
Some cheapo one that is in my mom's car

                      These suckers add up

What do you hate about your Graco carrier? I really dislike our Graco Snugride, but I can't put my finger on what exactly is wrong with it. I just know I don't like it, and I can't wait until we can switch to a convertible.

I've gone through several carseats too and I like my Britax seats. Right now, K1 is in this: http://www.diapers.com/p/britax-fron...at-onyx-807606. It starts at 25lbs and in harness mode goes up to 90lbs, 58". K2 is in a Britax Marathon which works from 5 lbs-65 lbs. Both boys weigh about 45 lbs now. Lambie (8mo) is still in the Graco Snugride 32 that I've used since K1 was born. I think the boys grew out of it around 6 months... maybe K1 used it longer but I don't remember. It will be expired by 2015 but I expect she'll have grown out of it before the end of this year. She'll use K2's old Britax Roundabout after that (5lbs-55lbs).

The Roundabout wasn't a good choice for K2 because he's stocky and it has been sitting in our basement for about a year. We also have two Marathons in our second car so we've got six carseats total and they are all getting lots of use except for maybe the Roundabout. If I had to do it again, I'd skip the Roundabout and go with the Marathon. If you have lots of kids close in age like we did, you'll get a lot of use out of those transitional seats too.

Both of our kids hated the Snugride. They'd cry non stop if they were in the car for more than 10 minutes. I think it's not comfortable. I've heard the same from friends. It's just not comfortable. A world of a difference once we changed to the convertible: Britax Marathon.

Can they go rear facing safely in the Radian right from the Snugride/other infant car seat? I'd prefer that too (we've done the Graco to Britax marathon to Radian transition too) for price but I will say it seems that there's a huge difference (at least visually) in how much the Britaxes cradle them and wrap around them from the Radian. I feel like the Radian is basically just a booster with the back...

DS1 also screamed non-stop in his infant seat. Once we switched to a convertible at 3 months, he stopped.
I skipped the infant seat this time, and DS2 is rear facing in a Britax Boulevard.
