We've done a 10-hour flight with a 2-year old, and it's f-ing hell. But my kid isn't an easygoing one! You just get through it and keep the snacks and new toys flowing. If you can, I recommend getting a window and aisle seat, and an aisle seat on the other side. This gives you space to hand over food trays to each other, set the kid down in the aisle, etc. etc. We never did/do earmuffs, so I don't have a suggestion, sorry!
