Do you think it's because they're bilingual? I know bilingual kids can test behind initially but by elementary school are way ahead of their peers? Not that it matters because obviously you want them to get services if they're needed but just a thought?

You're doing awesome staying on top of this, A! How's Bean doing at school? And how was your bloodwork? Can we have a 13 update thread?

Oh man. Did your ped refer you to speech therapy? DS2 just turned 2, right?

I've mellowed since this morning. 😇
I brought it up as a worry at 18 months and we were put on watch. He turned 2 Saturday and has *maybe* 20 words (supposed to be upwards of 80-100), so our ped jumped on board and wrote the referral. Wait for the eval is after Thanksgiving (&#128553, but we are on a wait list in case something becomes available sooner.
I suspect speech for this kiddo will be 6 months tops, and then he'll catch up. DS1 has a total language exceptionality, so he has a longer road, but has made such leaps and bounds, that he will probably "be caught up" before the word "disorder" is tossed around.

Overall, my kids are okay and we are incredibly fortunate to have a good team here (worth moving for the millionth time).

C was at about 20 words at 2 as well. The pediatrician wasn't too worried, but when we went for M's well-child a week ago, she asked how things were going with C. Long story short, we are getting an evaluation done in a couple of weeks, because there hasn't been much improvement. We are total newbies at this, bc M was on the other end of the spectrum.

Here we are: almost six months out from starting speech. He is attempting more words, and says more words, but usually has to be prompted. Does not say two/three word sentences without prompting one word at a time. His receptive language is great, and he "gets" concepts, but I'll be damned if he is just choosing not to speak. :/

It's a little draining some days, and we really need him to talk (or sign!) before we attempt potty training (IMO). I'm considering waiting until the end of May (school/chemo) to just keep him home and pantsless to take the plunge. 😄

He's 2 1/2. We had a really tough afternoon that involved him scream crying (for what, is unclear, since I pointed to everything I could think of "This? this? This?") for over 90 minutes in a car that I drove to and from an extracurricular from DS1.
He has no delay or disorders, no red flags. I am feeling quite helpless and angry today: why won't he talk? And furthermore, why am I walking this same path that I did with my oldest (who at the very least tried to and wanted to communicate [and used sign])?

I brushed teeth, changed clothes, and put everyone to bed just now for my own sanity. DH went to the market and got home after I did.

I had him evaluated today with Early Intervention, and the screener said he tests for mild delay in communication and cognitive (now, where have I heard this before?)
He qualifies for a clinic evaluation downtown, but they can't see him until mid-May. In the meantime, I am continuing with private speech therapy and have called to set up ABA therapy for him (he struggles with pushing/biting, because of lack of language).

I'm kind of done for the day, since I had to meet with the Brain Trust for DS1's IEP today.
