I remember E's teacher started talking to me about potty training so long before she was ready, and I was just like uh, no. I had friends who tried around that age too, and I felt like they were trained, but not the kids. Like if you have to take your kid to the potty 5 times at dinner, not because the kid said they had to go, but because you asked if they had to go and they said yes, that's not potty trained. Neither is letting them sit on the potty for half an hour every morning while they watch cartoons waiting for them to poop. Diapers are so much easier, for the most part.
    Preach.

Definitely not excited about all the fake bathroom trips. That's my biggest hang up (I'm germaphobic- I hate taking the kids in public restrooms now. Alone it's fine, but together &#128561.

I'm also not super excited about accidents. I may get a puppy at the same time and then just throw out everything I own after everyone is housebroken. Lol.

He asked to go again today - but he had just pooped, so I said no. Then he wet his diaper. Oh well. Mom fail. I'm sure we'll figure it out.

It's definitely trial and error. For me, I just ended up putting her in panties and stayed home for the most part. If she just ended up just sitting, I'd praise her. I never asked unless she had drank some water or juice and it was usually within 15 min or so. If by luck she ended up actually going in the potty, she'd get a snack and I even went as far as letting her see me pee too. (Yes this isn't for everyone) but it clicked even more. She went when I went and then she got it down. My struggle was poop but I realized M is such a private person. So I had to figure all that out

I never did a lot of asking either - only if I know it's been a long time, or if she's clearly doing the potty dance and avoiding it. E did better when I ignored her and just let her do her own thing.

He peed again before their bath tonight. I'm still just ignoring and letting him go when he says potty and runs toward the door. (In denial...).

Not denial! There's a big difference between interested in the potty and ready to train.

Yeah. I agree. And he isn't. He told me this morning before he pooped, so I was like - "oh hey, let's go on the potty." He went through all the motions, but was like, "eh. All done." Put his diaper on and he pooped. In his defense, his brother is like all in face/business while this happens. I would have a hard time going too!

It took my oldest a good 3 months before she even pooped in the toilet. She was "potty trained" in pee but as soon as I put that diaper on her she would go poop even if it meant holding it in all day. It got so bad, I felt guilty for waiting till after bath time and then finally 1 day he body just couldn't hold it and she went during the day and I felt horrible even though she went with Dad to go do it. But seven she went through the motions too
