I just got the call that C bit a kid at school. I knew this was coming - he's been biting at home, and we've been working on breaking the behavior. For now it's just a phone call and an incident report, but I think after enough bites it becomes a bigger deal. Any tips for breaking it?

Biting
Is he teething? Can you give him NSAIDS or anything to decrease pain (and urge to stimulate teeth/sore gums)? In my experience, it's a stage and consistent response between home and daycare helps, but nothing but time really breaks it.Wife to PGY4 & Mother of 3.

Usually he does it when he's mad and wants something, either more attention or something I have that he can't have. I'll have to try and talk to his teacher and find out exactly what happened.Allison - professor; wife to a urology attending; mom to baby girl E (11/13), baby boy C (2/16), and a spoiled cat; knitter and hoarder of yarn; photographer

Went through this here too. #2 had a really bad stage for a few months, but he was with the nanny, so it wasn't as much of a problem. #3 does this as well, but not as bad and mostly accompanied with an evil little smile so I think he's just having fun.Married to a newly minted Pediatric Rad, momma to a sweet girl and a bunch of (mostly) cute boy monsters.

So, apparently the kid C bit sat on him first. I'll still discourage it, but definitely less concerned now.

C bit a kid again today. They're watching him closely for the rest of the day. This is his first week in a new class for summer camp - a lot of the kids are the same, but there are some new ones, and the teachers are new for him too.Allison - professor; wife to a urology attending; mom to baby girl E (11/13), baby boy C (2/16), and a spoiled cat; knitter and hoarder of yarn; photographer

FWIW, Nate is still threatening to bite his siblings regularly for fun and has in retaliation a few times. Jason did that too at this age. I think it is a pretty normal thing at this point.Married to a newly minted Pediatric Rad, momma to a sweet girl and a bunch of (mostly) cute boy monsters.

I know it's still normal, but it's just frustrating. He was actually trying to bite me last week during swimming lessons. They said they'd keep a closer eye on him and continue to work with him and remind him that teeth are not for biting. I guess on the plus side, if they kick him out, we're almost done anyway?Allison - professor; wife to a urology attending; mom to baby girl E (11/13), baby boy C (2/16), and a spoiled cat; knitter and hoarder of yarn; photographer
