Yet another thread on kids growing up too soon. Sorry, I have to vent.
My son has NOTHING that fits him for Spring so I have been shopping. Um, is anyone else grossed out by all the chains, skulls and crossbones, faded dingey shirts priced at $14 and up, and everything else that is out there for school aged boys? Old Navy was the worst offender of this kind of wear. I just want some quality plain striped tees and some plain polos which don't break the bank. I splurged on two polos from Hanna Anderson, but I need staples. There is just so much gross stuff out there. (I know, I just need to buckle up because it will be worse for girls this age).
My second rant on this issue is that my son just attended a 3rd grade girl's birthday party from our neighborhood. There were almost no toys for presents, all tween type stuff. Apparently, some girls are "done" with toys by third grade? I'm sure that this isn't representative for all kids, but this breaks my heart. I was the Barbie and fashion plates queen in third grade. I can tell you that my son and all his friends are still enraptured by Legos and transformers, but are girls still into make believe and toys in elementary school? Anyone?
In sum, this thread has nothing profound or new, just yet another observation on a topic that we are seriously doing an injustice to our kids.
