Ouch, poor Brynn! Did she at least get a cool sparkly cast?

OUCH! Poor Bryn (and mom). DS#2 had the same thing happen in May of his 1st grade year. His break was closer to his elbow and there was more concern about the potential need for surgery, etc. Lots of trips to the ortho clinic on base. He ended up having like four or five casts because they kept needing to check how it was healing. I hope Bryn's time in a cast is uneventful, and I hope she can style it up however she wants!

Just scheduled the follow up xray and appt for Monday -- she will get the real cast then if she needs one? i think she will, I guess the peds ortho makes the final call. ??

My money is on a two color cast. We'll see if she pics that and if she can get them to do it.

I hope she gets her two-color cast! She sounds like an active kid - Hopefully she won't have to wear it long.

DH's (much younger) brother fell off the balance beam (which I assume wasn't very high  ) and had to have quite a few stitches - and the school removed the beam!

I am convinced never to buy my kids a backyard trampoline. I'd make them wear helmets. And full-body armor on the school playground.

Talked to the principal...Bryn is the fourth monkey bar caused break this year. That seems like a lot to me. It did to her too and she has called the district safety inspectors after the third incident. They have inspected the play equipment, the bark chip depth, and observed every grade level playing and find everything to be within required conditions.

I wish that someone made no-slip grips for the bars since they are so often wet. Maybe that would help. Otherwise, I chalk it up to the rampant monkey bar obsession sweeping the school.

uh - hello? paint deck lady? I wonder where she gets that!!!

What a bummer of an injury! I'm glad she isn't too miserable, and that it's not hot and sticky outside. I hope she gets a lovely cast and is able to work it as an accessory throughout the holiday season.

How did her violin teacher react? My brother broke his arm in 2nd grade and his teacher said "what on earth were you thinking?!?!"

Her teacher said it is going to be a good opportunity to work on bowing and rhythm patterns without the distraction of finger positions. Way to look on the bright side! She is so, so close to moving up a violin size and has been excited about it but I don't think that will happen until after the cast comes off.

That's great! (My brother's teacher was a hard a**!) I don't remember which arm my brother broke, but there was no way he could play.

She chose a green cast -- darker not the neon -- and has an incomplete fracture below the growth plate. All good news and only 3 more weeks of a cast!

Holy monkey bars, I got the ED bill today. Spitting distance from $1600. I know emergency care is expensive but yowza. FWIW, I did try alternatives -- our peds office turned me away because they are doing a computer training so told me to go to the University ER (no urgent care). That is what they two streps ago as well. They need to do some sort of urgent care option there.

Yikes! I'm glad you got it taken care of quickly, though. When DD broke hers, we went to the ped. first, then got set up for X-ray in the aftenoon elsewhere. Then back to the ped. office. They set up an appointment to have it set with the ortho office the next afternoon. That night was hard on DD. She was in pain and it was swollen. I'm not sure that the bill for hers would have been less once you added up the three separate visits.
