Oh cripes, people need to get over themselves. My nephew is highly allergic to peanuts (and sensitive to all tree nuts as well) so we are all pretty versed on the whole no nut thing, but every parent of every kid I have ever know who has special dietary needs ensures that there is a stash of approved foods at school that they can have during parties.

BOO to tree nut mom. Seriously. You need to give her a pamphlet to the Food Allergy Anaphylaxis network folks in norther virginia. They would NEVER advise a mom of a kid with food allergies to expect a party to cater to their specific kid.

      Sigh.

Not surprised about the diabetic mom. I think this was an example of a teacher being clueless to suggest a snack that meets the needs of a diabetic kid.

You did great. And it's a PARTY (hello). There is a time for sugar, and it's called PARTIES!

Something today reminded me of this thread. We're supposed to bring healthy snacks to our baby group, and a mom brought Milanos today. Yum!!!

I was reminded of this thread while planning/attending a friend's baby shower this weekend... Between a bad case of gestational diabetes, a vegetarian and someone who is allergic to gluten we had a tough time getting a menu together. Luckily the only thing I don't eat is mustard. And there were mimosas, almost everyone could have those! But really, these were adults who could make their own choices when faced with a decision, I can't imagine being responsible for all those different kids' dietary needs. It seems like to truly ensure the safety of your child you would simply pack them their own snacks.
