My guess is that the school only provides the industrial strength stuff and that the kiddos will end up with horribly chapped hands once the weather gets cold. As for the paper towel, it is likely getting used to put their snack on instead of a paper plate.

We supply kleenex, hand sanitizer, baggies of various sizes, reams of copy paper, etc. I asked our former principal about office supplies when I was PTA president and they got that year the whopping amount of:

$3,000. Total. For a school that goes from K-8th grade with 500 kids.

That made it a lot less painful to buy stuff because I know otherwise the teachers and admins would be shouldering all the costs.

I wish we would just pay a fee for all the supplies. I'm sure buying in bulk as a school would be cheaper and less of a headache than every parent trudging to their local store for specific brands and quantities.

Yes this! I actually refuse to buy that stuff. I do however tell the teacher IF they run out of something please let me know and I will replenish your supply. There has probably been only three classes that needed more supplies. But I do agree that teachers shouldn't have to foot the bill.

I also don't know why we can't buy school supplies in bulk. We had over $400 in supplies and there was nothing fun or excessive included. No new backpacks or lunch boxes either. They even used stuff from last year and it was still a fortune. At least we bought on the tax free weekend

Push for it! Our school switched to a class fee (differs per grade/supplies) and we don't have to buy anything. The first year I got that email I replied with an "Hallelujah" to the secretary. They can get it at bulk prices.

They will send class emails if running low on wipes, tissues, etc. during the winter. Supplies are sent home at the end of the year.
