Kate if you could that would be great.

I've thought about face painting, the little girl across the street does a good job but I'm not sure she could do all of the girls.

So Cora's ended up with more pirate ideas than fairy, but I will say Target had some surprisingly good $2 fairy wings in the party-favors section. They looked good and several girls wore them throughout, so they must have been comfortable.

Also a surprise hit game was "fairy bubbles" where I made balloon paddles by duct taping paint stirrers to the backs of medium-size paper plates. We have a two-story foyer, and I dropped a balloon over the upstairs rail to each child below ("This one is for Reed! . . . This one is for Eva!. . .") and they had to use only the paddle to bounce the balloon around through to the back of the house and into a laundry basket I had there. No winner, just see if you can do it. Most took a couple of turns and then they started tossing them down to each other and I was surprised how long it lasted. And no one cried. I'm sure you could also do it with teams or a relay race or see who can keep theirs up the longest, etc.

We also did a pinata (the pinata stick from Target broke in half! =Crap!), a pin the flag on the treasure map game, a craft (made pirate hooks), a tag game, cake and ice cream, opened presents, and that was a two-hour party. Another game or two would have been better. This was our first friend party at home and we made many rookie mistakes and had more than a little frenetic chaos, but it was still fun.

Ooh thanks for the wing tip I found some online that we're about $3 each but I'll look at target first.

Thanks for all of the ideas guys, I ran out of ideas at her party last year and it got out of control fast, I don't want that to happen again

I am a fan of games at this age because some kids don't have the patience for crafts or sitting still long. Plus, games are cheaper than craft supplies.

For any party, I try to keep an appropriate playlist on hand. If all else fails, kids love dance parties and freeze dance. Also, instead of face painting, we did glitter tattoos last year at DD's party. They were fast, and a big hit!

Ok, here is my plan - crazy? missing?

1 - Arrive and have glitter tattoo applied
                  - Once everyone has arrived play game to "earn" their fairy wings and tutu
Game: Fairy Fairy Tinkerbell to "earn" wands
1-2 more Games until 2pm (Musical Pixie Pillows, Freeze dancing, pin the wings on the Fairy)
                  2 - Tea, cake/cupcakes, snacks
Either more games or open gifts until time to leave at 3. (I would rather not open gifts but I can if I need to use it as a time filler)

Hide all dress up clothes as these were a source of contention at last year's party. Hang a sheet with a sign that says Gnome/Troll Forest - no entrance to hopefully keep the kids downstairs.

Is that enough for two hours for 12-18 5&6 year old girls? I'm going to have at least 3 adults here...

It sounds like a blast! I think you have plenty to keep them busy. AND, it's okay to say, "girls, the party is down here." not allowing them upstairs ( though tou should still do the sign idea because it's super cute). I'm looking forward to pictures!

Yes! Do you have banisters? Maybe decorating with tulle or streamers in a criss-cross pattern with the sign hanging I hid all the toys that I thought would cause fights/misuse for A's party, too! What about a coloring/crafting type activity? That might last longer than a game??? What about tracing A on a couple pieces of large paper, and having teams "decorate" them (as fairies)? (So, you'd have the outline of her body, but they would have to draw all the features/wings/clothes)

What should 5/6 year old girls do to earn their wings?

                          - balance a fairy wand on their head
                          - flutter around the room on their tippy toes
                          - draw a flower
                          - Make up a fairy rhyme, to hard?
                          - name three famous fairies, maybe they could do this but I can't

                          What else?

                            Fairy Tea Party

What about doing a "fairy dance" where you would read a poem that is pre-written, and they have to follow the directions. Something like (Heidi, some help please!)
"It's time to earn your fairy wings
                            So listen to me.
Do as I say and your wings will you see.
Spin in a circle 1, 2, 3 (count as they spin)
Walk on your toes just like me.
Now give a fairy curtesy or a bow
You've all earned your fairy wings now!"

(You can add other things if you want it to be longer, like clapping, or making a large circle and spinning).

My 7 year old just went to a Fairy party last week. They played fairy-themed musical chairs and duck, duck goose which was Fairy, Fairy wings. They decorated pre-painted wooden fairy houses. Wands were given out at the end with goodie bags which contained some candy and fairy dust (aka baby powder and glitter). I think they received a lesson on fairy manners too. The party was 2 hours.

The cake is done, the DR is mostly decorated, I think we're ready.
