My yard is a bit crispy, even though I've half-heartedly tried to water it. Is there any hope of bringing it back next year? Suggestions?

It should be fine. Grass rarely dies- it just goes dormant during the drought.

I agree. That has been my experience as well. As long as it is kinda sorta hanging in a little bit, it should come back fine. Not worth the water, IMO.

As long as it's established grass, it should be fine. We just had our lawn analyzed, and the sod laid last year still isn't rooted, so we have to be conscious of watering, or we'll need to re-sod. Believe me, the sprinklers are on!

Ours was pretty crispy about three weeks ago - DH watered for about 4 days straight and since then we've had two really good rain storms, its as green as ever and looks great.

Should I buy some fertilizer or something before fall?

Julie, that is sooooo funny. I laughed so hard I spit coffee on the keyboard (yet again).

I know you definitely have to winterize it before winter - I'm not much help otherwise.

Same experience here except we did not water it...just got a whole week worth of rain and the yard looks grrrreat! We would never afford our water bill if we dumped that much water on it...so crispy it will be unless mother nature thinks otherwise.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

I think so - the yard is DH's department so I'm not much help.

Fall is the best time to fertilize your lawn. So if you do want to fertilize it this year, now would be a good time.

Our grass was pretty dry and crispy too, but we've since had some good rains and watered a few times and it looks halfway decent again.

Our lawn has gotten VERY crispy for the last couple of years and it has always come back. I second the suggestion of fertilizing in the fall.

Confession time: half of me secretly rejoices when the lawn gets crispy because it means I don't have to mow.

Well...we lost parts of our yard. :badday: I just spent the last four hours putting down new top soil and reseeding it. Wish me luck. I literally figured out how to reseed the yard by googling it. There really out to be a mandatory class: Homeownership 101.
