    Re: I need a blender!

I think my post got lost somehow. We got a Waring commercial-grade blender from the restaurant supply in Rochester. It was a great idea. We paid about $100 and got a blender with a ton more power than those sold in department stores. I do everything with it - margaritas, baby food, smoothies, and it all turns out great. I'd definitely check out restaurant supply first - it's a good way to save some money.

Deb, that is a great idea, I'll check that out next week. The one on West Circle or the other one? Thanks!

I've only been to the one on West Circle, but I think any would have a couple to choose from.

Heidi, mine was leaking too, which is when I ordered the replacement rubber insert thingys and realized I need to take the base apart when washing.

Julie, I always took the base apart when washing. It just starting leaking horrifically. I always washed every part seperately. I don't know. Anyway, the Oster people were really good about it. I was just going to order a new piece, and they sent me an entirely new blender.

Good to know in the future to just see if they send a brand new item instead of paying for any replacements myself. Thanks for the tip.

Ok gang so the Oster that Heidi has is no longer made, which other Oster's are good?

                    Re: I need a blender!

I have a pretty old model too, it's no longer sold either. I would definitely go for a glass jar and a metal body though, I think they are way more sturdy that way. And go for just a blender, I hear the combos aren't as good. Maybe Amazon has reviews of newer models.

                      I'll check consumer reports.

The highly rated Oster Counterforms and Oster Fusion are both solid choices. Both did a strong job whipping up icy drinks and excelled making smoothies, and were capable at pureeing soup and grating cheese as well. They are convenient to use but are somewhat noisy when running at maximum speed.

                          Re: I need a blender!

My one real requirement when we looked for a new blender was all-metal gear parts. If the parts that have to mesh and turn (where the bowl meets the motor) are plastic/rubber (which they seem to be on a LOT of blenders), in my experience, they'll break pretty easily. I think what we have now that is metal is an Oster, but I couldn't tell you what model.

                            Re: I need a blender!

I've been following this thread. We also need a blender after DH killed ours making blizzards for midnight parties on call nights during fellowship. I got desperate last weekend and tried to make margaritas with a food processor which failed miserably. I am going to check out those two Osters which were recommended.

                            Thanks!

Ours is definitely very noisy but it's not on for longer than 20-30 seconds, so I don't mind it as much. I love how sturdy all the parts are. I would rather have it noisy and heavy than flimsy.
