    FWIW: We have Carrara marble in our master bath and I find it much easier to care for than everyone else has noted. I've had it for over 12 years and only have one spot on it. I DO NOT clean it every day, if truth be told, not even every week. Maybe the trick is to just let the dust and make-up pile up to protect the surface, . Anyway, it is beautiful and adds a lot of character to the bathroom. I vote marble. I can show you a pic if you'd like to see how it holds up.

      I found this photo in the latest issue of Real Simple. The table runner reminded me of your tile choice against the gray tablecloth as a possible countertop option. I think it looks nice together.
