We do so much damn laundry that I can probably do a full load of towels everyday. We only use towels in the kitchen for drying hands and dishes or drying already washed/scrubbed counters. They don't get gross so much as just wet. And I hate wet towels so they go into the laundry room as soon as they're done being used.

We only use 2 towels at a time. One is for hand drying and the other is only for dish drying. Depending on how many dishes we wash depends on when I replace them...usually every two to three days. While prepping for a dinner party, however, I've change them twice in one night. I have a laundry bag in the laundry room where all kitchen towels, cloth napkins/tablecloths go. I do not like to wash my kitchen/dining linens with the rest of my household laundry. I'm weird that way I guess because I don't want undies mixed with napkins.
I do have quite the towel collection. Oh -and the third towel is usually a decorative one (they are my holiday kitchen decor) that I may occasionally use as a hot pad...these get changed once a month maybe more if I get something on it or if a guest uses it to clean something (grrrr). The counters get cleaned by one of those spongy square washcloths that I spritz with clorox after every use. I'm a germ-a-phobe.Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

We use a sponge to wash dishes and change it probably far less frequently than we should. Usually when it starts to actually look gross or break apart.
Hand towels, washrags, and dish-drying towels get washed weekly with the rest of the household towels. I don't worry about them being wet, maybe because we're in a pretty dry climate. Nothing stays wet for too long here.

We used a scrubby for the dishes. Then we have a low drawer filled with the crappiest, oldest kitchen towels you have ever seen. Kids spill something or leave fingerprints on something about 1000 times a day. Our laundry/mudroom is attached to the kitchen so I just walk it to the washer after use.
We have a gourmet kitchen that regularly displays surgical towels on the hooks. In my dreams I run with the Kenyans.

No dishtowels here, the very last thing I need is more laundry. Scrubber for the dishes that can also go in the dishwasher, then paper towels and clorox wipesTara

I use a scrubber for dishes that gets thrown in the dishwasher about once a week. Counters are wiped with Kirkland wipes (better than Clorox IMO). I only use hand towels to dry dishes or dry off counters or dry off my hands after washing. Towels are white and get bleached with socks and things when it's time.Heidi, PA-S1 - wife to an orthopaedic surgeon, mom to Ryan, 17, and Alexia, 11.
