  • Washers & Dryers

With this move coming up we will need to get a washer and dryer for the first time. Not one rental house I've looked at in our new city supplies a washer or dryer so I've started researching and hunting for information. I thought there was a thread on here somewhere about washers & dryers but I couldn't find it. Initially I was thinking of finding a rebuilt traditional top loading machine to save money, however recently the desire to purchase a new one- preferably a front loader - has over taken me. Dh is okay with this as we'd hope to buy a quality machine and dryer that would last 10+ years. I was originally thinking of going with a German brand but now I'm just confused. I was thinking Bosch however the machines tend to be small. I would like to be able to wash our queen size quilts and blankets in it so I'm unsure they would be big enough. I've also thought Miele, however the price is $$$$ and honestly I couldn't find many reviews and most were not positive. Can anyone recommend any brands or models that have proven reliable? I don't need steam or fancy computer options- just a hearty front loader that will last and will clean clothes and blankets/sheets well.

I had an LG Tromm that I LOVED, as does cupcake (if you remember her). However, it seems others haven't had good experiences with them. We currently have Electrolux, which doesn't really butter my muffin. They're not the most reliable, and they clean fairly well, but not as well as my LG. I have been able to stuff my enormous comforter in each without a problem.

BTW, the steam option for the dryer is *awesome*. While I'm not a huge fan of the electrolux, I do appreciate the sanitize option (great for poopy pants and vomit) as well as a "self-clean" mode.

I have the Whirlpool Duet and I've only had them two months but I LOVE them!

LG Tromm washer and dryer that have been great! Over 4 years of cloth diaper washing too. I've had the machines almost 6 years.

Whirlpool Duet top load. This is my second set (the first is still in "my" Columbus house), and I am still in love.

Love my Kenmore HE top loading washer and kenmore front loading dryer. I posted the name (oasis?) in the other thread we had going on this topic. I actually have two sets....loved the first set I had, and got a second set for the basement about 18 months later. Be sure to check the Sears outlet (if
there is one close to where you are) no matter what brand you decide to go with.

I can vouch for LGs too! We have front loaders and love them. But I'm not sure which specific model of LG we have......

Word! I got a washer that was dented on its left side & a dryer that was scratched on its right side...put them together & you never see this...saved a bunch!

Thanks for the tip about Sears outlet! There isn't one in the state we currently live in or in our next state, however it still might be cheaper even with the expensive shipping.

We bought our fridge at a Sears outlet yesterday.
It also was a red tag special, plus we got 5% off of that price.
We got the fridge we want, and saved $900. It has some scratches on the handle, but I could care less.
We went with a Whirlpool French door, and I'm very excited.

New fridge handles only cost about $20...

We have to buy W/D too for our move. I don't have it in me to research..,

Well I found a machine & dryer that I want at Sears outlet but their is only one. I can't afford to buy it until we get our sign on bonus check which hopefully will be by the time we move. So, I will not divulge what it is in hopes it will still be there by the end of the month

We're buying w/d, too. Probably through Home Depot since they're in our new town and are having a decent sale.

If you can wait, check the local family owned appliance stores in your new town. They can have wonderful prices on floor models, and if you take the prices you get at the Big Box stores they will probably match them.
