We'll be in a town with a Safeway, a Walmart, a Home Depot, and eleventy billion fast food joints. There are MAYBE three non-chain restaurants in that end of the county.

I have the Electrolux wave touch washer/dryer front loaders which are amazing - the washer has the largest capacity on the market and I can wash up to 3 king sized duvets at a time - what I used to wash in my regular washer in 3 loads, I can now do it in one. It has a sanitize cycle, and works awesome.

Ugh. I keep changing my mind. There doesn't seem to be a reliable washer out there. I read and search and read and search and there seems to be even with the "highest rated" washers at least 20% have horrible/lemon problems. Can anyone with Consumer Reports access tell me what the top rated several washers are? I'm open to front load and top load. Originally I wanted a front load but I'm too conflicted at this point. I never thought this would be such a wrenching decision. Ack!

I've heard so many bad experiences with front load, I'll probably always get a top load one. Other than that, I'm no help. I've been perfectly happy with my floor model, cheap (Maytag? Whirlpool? I don't even know...) that I got 8 years ago.

The top front loaders are: LG WM3470H[W]A, and then 3 Whirlpool Duet's WFW94HEX[W}, 95HEX and 97HEX. (I have one of those and LOVE it!)

The top top loaders are: LGWT4801C[W], Samsung WA5451AN[W], Maytag Bravos XL MVWB750Y[W] and LG WT5170h[W]

I will say about the front load smell issue - my Duet tells me when I need to run a cycle, it has a setting for it and everything. I throw in the cleaner tab, turn it on and walk away. Its only told me to do it once since we got it about 3 months ago and I've had no smell issues but its in a room where the door can be kept open at all times too.

I have nothing to add, but wanted to throw my appreciation out there to those posting their experiences here. Our knob on our eight year old washer broke during our move, so we're on the market for a new set.

I've always wanted a front loader because they were en vogue, but now I'm having second thoughts based on the things you guys are saying.

Make note of the size/layout of your laundry space before buying a front-loader. Our laundry "room" is really a laundry closet and a front load washer would not have worked because there wasn't enough room to open the washer door all the way.

This probably isn't much help since I only bought this W&D set 2 weeks ago so I can't speak to it's longevity, BUT I just got an HE top loader from Whirlpool (one of the ones without the big spin column in the middle) and boy do I love this thing! Now granted, the last two W&D sets I had were ancient so anything new is impressive to me but holy crap these things are awesome! And without the big spin column I can fit a queen sized comforter in there with no problem. The matching dryer is great too -- very fast yet still energy efficient.

It's pretty big, but there is a door that could get in the way. I'll ask the landlord for dimensions. Looks like it will fit a full size set.

I ended up going with a Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer. So far they work great and I've got no complaints. I used a local store and got a low price, free install, delivery and cords. I also got an extended warranty as I have heard that these machines can be prone to computer breakdown, which is super expensive to repair.

Well I mean I set it to cold and it washes, but when I open the door it was obviously hot water. It's weird
