  • Vinegar

I have read all the benefits of using vinegar to clean/wash around the house. I reeeeeeally want to love using it but I just can't stand the smell. It is supposed to go away but I do not feel it happens quickly enough. For example, after moping the floors/cleaning the counters, I want to have a fresh smelling room. Am I using too much - not diluting enough? I have played around with the vinegar/water ratio but I can still smell it. Am I doing something wrong or do I just have to suck it up until the smell goes away?

Add a little lemon oil or peppermint oil?

I think the smell is supposed to go away on its own but I second what diggity suggests-lemon oil?

Orange oil might also be nice.

I've got essential oils. I am going to try it and report back.

I am just surprised the smell does not bother anyone else. Supposedly, you can also use it instead of deodorant - I can't imagine smelling like vinegar.

Are you using white vinegar? Some vinegars smell less than others.

Yes, using the cheap white stuff. My apple cider Bragg is too yummy & pricey - I am not wasting it on cleaning

I don't usually use vinegar for anything other than laundry when the cats pee on something. It completely removes the odor.

I kind of like the smell... It reminds me of Easter eggs!

I have been wondering about this vinegar and baking soda uses for cleaning but have no idea where to begin. Any tips?

Vinegar and baking soda are a great garbage disposal cleaner. Dump in some baking soda and then pour in some vinegar and watch the freak foam form.

I mop with vinegar & hot water. Once it dries & the nipping water is poured out the smell is gone.

I keep a spray bottle of half vinegar and half water. I use it for almost all my cleaning - mirrors, counters, sinks, tubs/showers, etc.

When you first start using it, you might have some build up on your mirrors from your old cleaners, which can cause streaking. Add a couple drops of Dawn to the spray bottle until it clears.

Great tips and I'll give it a try, but I have a few questions. Have you tried the freak foam form? What is nipping water? Does it really work on the grime that can build up in showers? Don't mind me I'm just curious that's all.

I use baking soda and vinegar to clean out the garbage disposal all the time. It foams like hell and helps deodorize the disposal. Then you rinse the drain/disposal with super hot water.
