Oh, that book is very popular in the professional organizer community. The "spark joy " concept is wonderful. Beware though that she also suggests purging by category rather than room which may be impractical for many American homes. For instance, collecting all the books in the house and then sorting/purging works if you have only 100 or so books. But most Americans have 100+ children's books, 100+ cookbooks and so forth spread all over their homes.

Another person who loves the KonMari Method right here. I loathe clutter, though, so her hardcore stance on it is right up my alley. YMMV.

Would something like this work for the office, assuming I can get rid of most of what's in our drawers?

We've got 8' that we can fill on the wall with the desk, and about 65" on the wall with the TV. I so wish we had an IKEA or a Container Store here! Where else do you buy decently priced furniture for organizing?

Amazon or walmart (with free returns in case it wasn't what I thought)!

Any specific brands from Amazon? Does Walmart have stuff that's decent quality? I have a ClosetMaid cubeicals shelf in E's room, but it's like a cheap version of IKEA and not really something I think would hold up super well in an office. The desk currently in there is from OfficeMax, and while most of it is particle board, the top is solid wood, so it's decent, but we really need more in there than just a desk and random pieces that my dad made (the printer shelf and the hutch).

So, this would be awesome, except it's too wide, and expensive!

I've actually been quite impressed with my walmart buys. I like to read the reviews (There's often hundreds) to see if it meets my needs. For example I got a bed frame and all the bad reviews said it wasnt great for a lot of weight our kids jumping on it. Since only one person would be sleeping on it and no kids, I went for it. And it's been great for years.

IKEA is our go-to for organizing stuff. What about ordering it online? You could also check out Overstock. I've gotten some great furniture from there in the past, just make sure to read the reviews.

I think it's crazy expensive to order online, but I haven't looked lately.

Overstock varies, but sometimes they run specials on shipping!

When we realized our couch wasn't going to fit down the stairs, we got a futon for our basement from overstock and shipping was free and it arrived within 3 days. It's definitely worth looking there for furniture if you're brave enough to go by online reviews.

I just meant shipping from IKEA. I haven't looked overstock yet but will when E goes to bed!

Ikea shipping tends to be flat rate for however much you order, so if you're buying a lot, it's usually worth it.

Good to know about IKEA shipping. I'll keep looking, trying to figure something out! I got rid of another stack of papers today!
