I love how I raved about getting rid of "builder beige" and what am I choosing? Mm, beige family. LOL. But still, these are tans with character, and they're for neutral parts of the house. I hope to get braver in other rooms. What we actually have now is more of a generic creamy vanilla, which I guess is more like a realtor's "neutralizer", and let's just say that going forward, I'm not touching anything in the yellow family with a ten-foot pole! So tired of it! Especially how it blends with the trim. We have really nice finishes and in most lights, you'd never suspect it.

Ha! Same here! My favorite color in our last house was Cream in My Coffee by Valspar. It's beige but with grey undertones as opposed to yellow, which is so hard to find! We went with Desert Fortress this time. It's basically the same color but a shade darker. Great colors for common areas.

Ooooh! I love the color your sil picked out! We have something similar in our townhouse, although it might be a tad warmer and a smidge lighter.

Me too! The more I look at the palette she gave us the more I like it. It turns out that SW 7516 Kestrel White is a near-perfect match, so I think I'm just going to go with it.

The big paint chip is BM AF-60, peau de soie. On top of it, from bottom to top, are SW 7516 Kestrel White, SW 7517 China Doll, and the Extra White (untinted) shade we'll do for trim.

A couple of views of the entryway that's going to be painted first. You can see that the wall with the door doesn't get a ton of natural light, and the trim really blends in on there. On the one hand, it makes me want to do a darker tone because it will contrast better. On the other hand, I feel I should go as light as possible so it isn't gloomy?

I might get both the lighter and darker shades painted as samples. Or I might just choose the lighter one and run with it, since it's the one that's a perfect match to SIL's palette. The color consultant was no help, just said she'll arrange to get a sample painted for us if we want it.

I would say go darker, but that is usually my preference.

I'm so torn. Darker looks more sophisticated, but when we bought this house it was the light airy feel that drew us in...Eh?

(Talking myself down from over-over-overthinking this.) It's just the entryway. There aren't really any other furnishings or decorations that will be affected if it changes the cast of the light. I think I'm going with the lightest one. Painting has been scheduled, it starts a week from Tuesday! Eep!

I wouldn't say dark dark, just maybe a lighter true beige or "greige." What you have is just really close to plain ol white, which isn't bad, but hey if you are trying to get away from blah...

Like these (maybe not the color family you were looking for, but just an example) still light and airy, but definitely a color and definitely makes the trim pop

Well damnit Tapatalk won't let me upload. I'll try again later

Right, it kind of bothers me that the color has "white" in the name and that it is on the white and neutral sheet! But...never having done this before, I have this uneasy feeling that anything we choose is really going to feel darker once it's surrounding us 360 degrees. I think I'll be able to get braver once this change is underway, and since it's a neutral with a reputation for going with everything, it will be fine for the entryway to be the blah room and everything else to have a little more spice.

I love the current trend to use grays and cool neutrals with pops of bright color accents. My main spaces are going to be warm-dominated but I'm looking for ways to use that scheme in some room or other!

Awesome, thank you!! Love those warm grays, they make my heart happy. For what it's worth, Edgecomb Gray for example has an LRV of 64.5, while Kestrel White is 68...it's not SO much lighter. Classic gray is 74!
