    Re: My war on fat!

Still plugging along. I finally hit the - 10 mark!!!!

Now that the weather is warming up I'm alternating between my exercise videos and walking outside while pushing the jogging stroller. I've been doing some interval training and it feels great!

My arm injuries feel MUCH better but I haven't returned to the weights just yet.

10!!!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!! You are doing it!! By this time of year most New Years dieters have gone back to the old ways, but here we are!!!!!! I'm so happy for ya

As for me... I just don't understand what my body is doing. :| 8 days ago I was -37 lbs. The next day (7days ago) I gained 2 pounds over night. I'm like WTH!?!? Whatever... stay the course, right? I’m stuck at -35 pounds for 6 days. Yesterday (7days after gaining 2 pounds) I wake up and those 2 pounds are gone. I lost them over night. Today I get up and weigh and I'm down another 1.3ish pounds. As of today I'm -38. Even tho I should be glad about that, I'm totally baffled as to what’s going on with me. From last week I'm really only -1. At my size I should be doing better than that. It's just the strangest thing. I hope the -38 sticks and that I don't go back up. I want that -40 so freakin bad!! Stay the course, Stay the course...

          One word:

          Hormones.

Don't discount the impact of your monthly cycle. I have gone up INCHES in my waist measurement and pounds in weight- and then blam- it's gone.

          Gotta love being a girl...

              Re: My war on fat!

I should start next week.... so maybe it's pre period gaining?? I don't know. I've honestly never tried to lose weight before in a serious way. I (for some reason) thought weight would just gradually come off as the days/weeks past. Those darn hormones!

I called my aunt last night to discus. She lost 80 pounds about 7-8 years ago- and kept it off. She said that she would go for a long time without losing anything (stay the course) and then BAM lose the weight in some sort of weight loss streak. I guess that is sortta of whats happening to me???? I'm down -39 this morning. After a week of nothing, it all seems to be falling off the past 3 days... so odd.

and stop weighing yourself every day! 1 x week is plenty.

                  Re: My war on fat!

I agree with Jenn. If you have to weigh yourself every day, *do not* obsess over the exact weight right that instant...what you're looking for is the *trend*, not the exact number.

Here's a page that explains why and how:
http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/e4/signalnoise.html (warning: this is part of an online diet book that advocates eating a lot less to lose weight; I don't fully agree with everything he says, but this chapter about paying attention to a smoothing trend of weight rather than obsessing about every single day's precise weight made a *lot* of sense to me. Look at the graphs and read the "Dexter's diet" section to see what I mean.)

Here's an online app that'll let you track your weight and show you the trend:
                  http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/online/hdo.html

Or you can use the excel version:

I’m ashamed to even say how often per day I was weighing when I first started all this dieting last fall. :tsk: it was out of hand. one of my best friends who is a nurse told me that psychologically I keep weighing in order to truly believe the weight is coming down. I think in my case that is correct. I'm just in shock at my progress. My friends and family are in even bigger shock that I've stuck to it. I'll take all your advice to heart and try my best to stop weighing daily. I don't say this lightly... This is truly the most difficult thing I've attempted in my life to date. Thanks for all the support!

And just for old time sakes... as of today -39. ok ok, I'm done until next week! LOL!

Can I just say that hitting a plateau really sucks? I was stuck for exactly 3 weeks. That was a first for me since I started this new program. Anyways, I'm back on the downward slide. Anyone else want or need to check in?? Best of luck to everyone, and hang in there! :wee:

                          Re: My war on fat!

Hey for those of you who are dieting a few tips:

check the sugar levels of your fat free items, such as cookies and yogurt, many of these have just as much sugar as the non fat free/ solution, get plain yogurt add honey, granola, fruit instead

check all cereals for sugar amounts per serving (granola is high in sugar)

add cut up pieces of pineapple, cucumber, lemons, limes or oranges and put them in a pitcher of water to give it some flavor - if you don't like water

eat only as much carbs (rice/pasta) as the palm of your hand just like a meat serving

eat hummus instead of dip with veggies

have your sandwich w/out the top layer of bread to cut calories

don't drink sports drinks, once again sugar

Just thought I'd pass on what has helped me out in the past, though you may know all of this already. Happy Friday to all of you

                            Re: My war on fat!

Well, I put on a short sleeved blouse a few weeks ago... only to find that my arms were too fat.
Lily, do you do any weight training on your upper body? If not, grab some weights and bands and do some when you are watching t.v. To me, it doesn't matter if your body isn't model perfect, there is something mental about knowing there is MUSCLE underneath our layers. Plus, the weight lifting helps with metabolism. It looks hot to see muscles with tank tops, and you'll see them if you do even some light weight training three days a week.

I'll second that advice. I started doing arm workouts three times a week and it's amazing how quickly I saw results. I have very wimpy arms and, while I didn't exactly bulk up, I saw some great definition within only a couple of weeks. You don't even need heavy weights at all. I use 3 pounders in each hand and it's still a nice little workout. OK, so now I'll run and hide for shame.
