  • The Doctor's Quick Weight Loss Plan

Does anybody know anything about it? My mom is on it and I'm concerned that it may not be a good plan for her.

What is it? Anything that says quick and weight loss in the same sentence makes me wary.

That's what I'm trying to find out. She mentioned something about pills today and I freaked.

All I could come up with was a Google Books search result that says...

1961 - High-protein, high-fat, halitosis-inducing diets return, beginning with Herman Taller's Calories Don't Count and Dr. Irwin Stillman's The Doctor's Quick Weight Loss Plan. These are followed by Dr. Robert Atkins's famed Diet Revolution and Herman Tarnower's Scarsdale diet in the 1970s.
        ETA: OK, here's more:

        It's basically the Atkins diet.

Which has been criticized for being hard on the kidneys, but I haven't looked into it carefully.

Actually it's not hard on the kidneys if you drink plenty of water and eat vegetables, which you are supposed to do. DH learned in a lecture in his medical school that it is one of the most effective ways to lose weight healthily. Atkins also does not use any type of pills except for a multi-vitamin. This is also different from the Atkins in that fat, butter, and dressing, etc is not permitted. I'd say that's a big difference and this is definitely not like the Atkins.
