  • October Weight Loss Encouragement

I thought perhaps it was time for an updated thread

Actually, I really credit this and Brandi specifically for getting me to get off my butt. I've started my workplace's weight loss program and already lost 1.5 lbs. Running class started this week too!

After gaining .6 and 1.0 the last two weeks I was happy to have a loss of 1.6 this week which means I am heading in the right direction again!

For those of you who like phone apps I recommend imapmyrun (they have it for droid and iphone) and it tracks all your workouts (TONS of different options for workouts and calculates calories burned). It was nice to look back yesterday and see that I've run over 33 miles, and lost 2.6 pounds since I started logging workouts in September. It was also nice to look back and see that I actually worked out three times a week in September.

Thanks for starting this, I needed another boost of encouragement to keep at it... although I had a good week, it came after two bad ones!

I do love this support. I found a new program. Its called Couch to 5k. I was really floundering in my exercising. Especially when the weather is bad and I have to get on the treadmill. I get bored, and just give up. But with this program I have a specific goal and am really following it. I took pictures this weekend at a bachelorette party/wedding and was actually happy with how I looked! Now just to get my flabby arms in shape too!

I did it two years ago--awesome program. I couldn't run a mile and it got me to the point of running a 5k with relative ease.. I even got up to 4 mile runs for awhile. I cant do that anymore, but it really helped me get past the mental barrier that was probably the biggest part of the issue. I'm hoping this running class will get me back into better shape, but ever since that program, I've still been able to bust out a mile or two, even if it has been awhile.

Anyone else using Sparkpeople to track food? Like a good IT person, I decided the official tool that is part of the Corporate program is crap and I need to use my own

Yes! I used to use SparkPeople (same user name). I should probably get back on track. I've been trying to motivate myself to work out a little bit each day, trying to build consistency before I increase the duration. My elliptical is on its last legs (I'm not a runner), and I've been dreading going to the apartment complex gym. I have this idea that everyone there is nice and fit and nothing jiggles on their bodies. Well, the other day I was getting the mail and I saw this lady who was going so ridiculously slowly on the elliptical that she might as well have been taking a leisurely stroll. Maybe I won't stand out too much.

My friend did this and loved it. Running is not in my future (really bad knees), but Sara had great success with it (and she was actually pretty overweight and a couch potato). She's now done 3 5k's -- I'm really proud of her!

I'm still doing pilates at least 2x/week (will be 3x's this and next). I'm also doing 3 mile walks 1 or 2 times/week. I'll be adding lap swimming once the weather forces me indoors for my non-pilates activities. I don't own a scale, but I did just have to buy new pants (4 sizes down from last year), and the new shorts I bought at the beginning of August for vacation are officially baggy.

You guys are doing great! I need to track my eating again. I was losing pretty good when I monitored my intake. I use the iPhone app "LoseIt" and find it very easy to track calories and exercise.

I'm jumping in here, too. DH and I just started back on Weight Watchers. I'm really hoping to lose the rest of the baby weight plus the weight I should have lost before getting pregnant. My goal is to get to a healthy BMI, which I haven't been in years.

Another week, another pound down! I was very excited to see this since I ate horribly this weekend with celebrating our anniversary. I got my tush back on the treadmill after taking a long weekend too. I am not advancing in my program, but I figure as long as I am on the treadmill and trying, if it takes a little longer then the program suggests, at least I am still doing it.

                    How is everyone else doing?

I am SO pissed right now. I made sunflower seeds and ate them thinking they couldn't possibly be that bad for me. I ate about a whole cup yesterday, and a 1/3 of a cup today. They are 10 points for a freaking 1/3 a cup! No wonder I am up a pound today! And I just ate my daily allowance up..... grr!

Yeah, the bad thing about calorie counting is that it makes you realize how much nuts have--even if it is "good" fat.

DH requested "J" food (junk food), so I bought him a whole bunch and made him homemade chex mix and puppy chow. And I just gorged myself on puppy chow. Fail.

Mmm...puppy chow. I made homemade chocolate chip cookies...about 2 days after I said I was going to take a week break from baking. Fail! Oh well. This time of year is so hard for me. If I could add some regular exercise it wouldn't be so bad.

What is puppy chow? Other than canine feed. Like an idiot I bought Halloween candy today with some delusion that I wouldn't eat any before the 31st. Yeah, 3 KitKats and 2 Reese Cups later and I feel like a total blob. Ugh. Guess the dogs and I will be going on an extra long walk this afternoon...
