  • Day Four...

Hi guys. I'm on a fitness kick. Finally healthy after a bad year, I'm trying to get back in to shape. the only thing that works for me is one day at a time - and hard and fast rules. I don't do well with choices. I'm too good at rationalizing. This is what I'm doing. I don't do any dairy already because I'm lactose intolerant, so that helps with my fat intake. I'm adding to my no-no list, breads, baked goods, any non-whole grain starch. I'm trying to go with strictly lean proteins, lots of veggies and very limited whole grains for the next week or so. After that, I'll try adding in larger portions of whole grains like brown rice. I've got a major carb addiction so cutting out that stuff entirely always works miracles for me in the craving department.

So...I'm on day four. I'm feeling great! My pants are loose! My cravings have subsided. Starting after Thanksgiving, I'm going to hit the gym 4 times a week. Right now, with holiday planning and our remodel that isn't possible. Instead, I'm walking the dogs for longer times (45 minutes) on the hilly trails. The gym is a 2 hour adventure with changing, class, etc. Hopefully, I'll be up to doing that soon and the novelty will last me through the evil holiday season.

Anyone else on a new-ish fitness kick? I'm a horrible buddy because I backslide (often) and have middle aged metabolism. I'm also NOT a fan of my scale because it leads me to depression and overeating and I obsess.

In college, I suffered from anorexia for two years. You'd never know it now - but I'm desperate not to pass on any of the obsessive quality to my daughter (11) so I'd just like to focus on healthy eating styles and exercise. That said, I've got 40 pounds to lose and I do know what techniques worked for me when I was 98 pounds in college....so I'm trying it. (Oh, the shame. It's a good thing I have no time or motivation to be desperately thin ever again.)

Woo hoo 4 days! You go!

I have a carb addiction too. BonBon is doing the no sugar-no flour thing and I'm thinking about trying it after Christmas. It's too late for me to doit now. I'm already waiting (not so patiently) for the baking to start!! But if it can get rid of my cravings....I'm up to try it.

I really want to lose about 12 more pounds before Christmas. I want my family to say "wow you look great!". All I'm doing is counting calories though. Whatever exercise I squeeze in (random lunges, squats and sit-ups) through out the day are bonuses!

I was probably borderline anorexic... I never exactly fit the description, and I didn't really *want* to be so thin, but everyone kept acting like I was sick, so I'd get too anxious to eat. DH finally pulled me out of it, years ago, by insisting I was normal, and I adore him for it. Ironically, morbid obesity runs in my family. And my 3yo gives me fits sometimes with her refusal to eat, but I'm trying just to pass along normal, healthy thoughts about food.

I desperately need to start exercising again, just for sanity of mind. I do have some post-partum weight to lose. I did pretty well on the treadmill after the last pregnancy, and I felt great. So... I'll commit to a half-hour daily on the treadmill, starting today!

Yeah for you!!! Good job getting back into it. I need to, I've been feeling very blah and unhealthy lately. We had a house guest this weekend and so we ate out a lot and didn't do much exercising and I just feel like a blob. I have always had success when I cut out all processed foods for a week, it seems to cut back on my cravings for them so then I can make better decisions on what to eat. I am feeling motivation sneaking up on me....

Sort of--good for you though! I'm only losing about .5-1 lb a week, but I'll take anything.

So, I'm having my second french press helping of coffee today. I'm sure that doesn't count as "healthy" but I can only eliminate so many vices at once. It's cold and rainy and my subconscious mind keeps suggesting I make brownies or cookies. Yeah, right. I'm on to you, subconscious. Those aren't "for the kids".

              I made coffee instead.

If day four is hard, I can't imagine day 25.

It will be easier, not harder! (That's what I keep telling myself)

The weight loss program leader (corporate program) had a good analogy--changing these habits is like turning an aircraft carrier--it is really hard at first, but once you get momentum in the direction you want to go, it is much easier.

That's what I was thinking, too. I gained too much weight for each pregnancy. But each time, on the way back down, I hit a weight where the energy kicked up a notch and certain foods didn't seem tempting anymore.

I did my half-hour on the treadmill. Ugh. But I remember that this becomes more energizing as I go, too.

I know THAT subconscious thought! I had it with a pumpkin dump cake and fyi, I ate half of it ( large cake sheet!)!!!!

Last time I eliminated white sugar, flour etc from my diet it got easier after a week. It was so easy, actually, that I didn't miss it or crave it anymore. I have had a substantial amount of coffee this week too!

I'm living on Diet Coke instead of too many sweets.

Michele, I'm living on Diet Coke too. Like Angie just said, I can only give up one vice at a time. I think quitting the flour and sugar AFTER Christmas is a fine idea. Before then would be just misery, lol.

Angie, by Day 25, you wouldn't even be craving it! I promise!!! WTG on Day 4!!
