Hi guys. I'm on a fitness kick. Finally healthy after a bad year, I'm trying to get back in to shape. the only thing that works for me is one day at a time - and hard and fast rules. I don't do well with choices. I'm too good at rationalizing. This is what I'm doing. I don't do any dairy already because I'm lactose intolerant, so that helps with my fat intake. I'm adding to my no-no list, breads, baked goods, any non-whole grain starch. I'm trying to go with strictly lean proteins, lots of veggies and very limited whole grains for the next week or so. After that, I'll try adding in larger portions of whole grains like brown rice. I've got a major carb addiction so cutting out that stuff entirely always works miracles for me in the craving department.
So...I'm on day four. I'm feeling great! My pants are loose! My cravings have subsided. Starting after Thanksgiving, I'm going to hit the gym 4 times a week. Right now, with holiday planning and our remodel that isn't possible. Instead, I'm walking the dogs for longer times (45 minutes) on the hilly trails. The gym is a 2 hour adventure with changing, class, etc. Hopefully, I'll be up to doing that soon and the novelty will last me through the evil holiday season.
Anyone else on a new-ish fitness kick? I'm a horrible buddy because I backslide (often) and have middle aged metabolism. I'm also NOT a fan of my scale because it leads me to depression and overeating and I obsess.
In college, I suffered from anorexia for two years. You'd never know it now - but I'm desperate not to pass on any of the obsessive quality to my daughter (11) so I'd just like to focus on healthy eating styles and exercise. That said, I've got 40 pounds to lose and I do know what techniques worked for me when I was 98 pounds in college....so I'm trying it. (Oh, the shame. It's a good thing I have no time or motivation to be desperately thin ever again.)
