Hot yoga?

    We get a cold damp cloth with lavender oils. Then our instructor goes around the room and gives each of us a neck and shoulder massage. I seriously love that class!

      Same here! I'd be happy with menthol too. One time the lady forgot the cloths and my friend and I got all twitchy on the floor waiting. It ended on a crabby note that day. lol

        Hot Vinyasa addict here, too. Our "treat" is a China Gel foot rub during Shavasana. *sigh*

        One word of caution, I'm currently taking it easy on the yoga after going to 4+ classes a week since September. I've cut back to 2 hots, 1 basics and a slow flow --- and modified my Chatarunga for the time being. The reason? Rotator Cuff tendonitis or something of that ilk. My right shoulder has been tweaky for a month now. I've been told rest and figuring out how best to sleep without aggravating it will help over time. So....take it easy on yourself. The heat really does let you do more than you normally can -- and that's great unless you miss the signs and overdo it.

          You are giving some great advice here. Our instructor was offering classes Tues and Fridays. Now it's Fridays and Sat. She asked us to tells others about the new Sat class but didn't really suggest we come to it because Hot Yoga is not for everyday. The way she talked its best for once Maybe twice a week.

          Anyone ever do a yoga workshop for more in depth instruction? I'm thinking about doing that but it means I have to take off a day of work at my little part time job. Its no big deal to not work I just don't know if I'll like it or not. I really would like to improve and get more info.

            Moonlight do it for yourself! You won't regret it! I did several (astanga) yoga workshops and retreats pre kids and really hope to again if I ever can get a break from them!

            I didn't know there were all styles of yoga practiced "hot" style. I always thought hot=Bikram. Interesting. Still think you're all nuts though

                    It was sold out last Tuesday! I've already booked a spot for next tues. I'm trying the advanced class on Friday and doing the mOdifications. It was the only time that worked.

                      I just did the advanced class and they do some crazy things in there! Definitely something to work towards. No menthol towel though. Bummer. But I did the human pretzel hot yoga class and i have Friday night sushi and champagne. All endorphin and serotonin systems are go. TGIF!

                        For some unknown reason my little two year old darling had a total meltdown right in front of the gym this morning! I missed hot yoga I was SO Close to getting in there. Glad you had a good class! I'll try again tomorrow maybe.

                            My husband and I go to slow flow together on Saturdays. It's not hot (just warm) and it isn't particularly "cardio" because the flow is slow. (Duh!) But, man, the teacher in there will work towards some fun poses! Lat week we did the backbend/headstand transition in which you start in a traditional yoga headstand and then slide your feet down to your butt arching your back and then step in to a backbend with your head still on the ground. I was totally pumped that I could do it. This week, we were doing the "reverse plank" stuff - and lots of binds - and my shoulder is just never ever going there. I think I'm going to have to realize that I can't do everything. Bummer.

                            We have Yoga Fusion classes here but I don't think they do barre type things. Extremely popular and they sometimes have 60 people crammed in to the studio. I haven't tried that but I might soon. We also have aerial yoga with the fabric trapeze.....but I haven't been brave enough to do that yet. It's not supposed to be hard. I'm just not graceful and how can an ungraceful type do that??

                            I've been trying to get my daughter in to yoga; she needs more exercise. Do you think it is wrong for me to "force" her in to a class? Seems anti-yoga. Still, I think she'd like the atmosphere compared to other exercise options. I also wonder if the heat is OK for a teen. Silly probably, she's 13 and already physically women-ish in so many ways. I'd imagine she can tolerate physically what an adult can tolerate. Thoughts?

                                That sucks!! I hope things work out better for you next week (pun wasn't intended..).

                                I hadn't thought about there not being child care at the gym on the weekends... That would really annoy me on on-call weekends!
