  • Weight Loss and Weaning

I've been really frustrated lately. I finally got my butt in gear and have been sticking to weight watchers and exercising regularly. I'm working out ~5 days a week alternating Insanity (think plyometric interval training--it's definitely a challenge) and Couch-to-5k.

Admittedly, there are still eating behaviors I need to change, but I've really whipped some of the problematic ones into shape and I've been well within my points values 3 out of the 4 weeks.

I'm still going to keep sticking to it because the alternative isn't an option, but I'm getting really discouraged. The first week I started this, I lost 2 pounds. The four weeks since then I've lost and gained the same 1-2 lbs over and over and over. I've seen much more success in the past with the level of exercise/eating right I'm doing now.

Some of my clothes feel a WEE tiny bit better, but otherwise, NOTHING. I weigh myself daily and can actually see a decent increase in my weight after I've had one bad day, even if it is pretty minor and I'm still within my points. I am getting more toned, but I know my weight should be moving by now.

What gives?? I'm wondering if it is nursing. N is eating lots of solids now, so she's backed off and I've adjusted my points accordingly. I'm also right at my pre-pregnancy weight.

I'm not too concerned about a dropping milk supply at this point, but I'm not ready to wean her at only 9 months. Ideally I really want to let her wean herself--I'm not opposed to extended nursing and honestly think it is a good idea. At the same time, I want to be pregnant by this time next year, maybe earlier, and I REALLY don't want to be at my current weight pregnant again. Ideally I'd like to lose 30 lbs.

I know others struggled with this--input?

I know I couldn't lose weight until I weaned completely. I know it sucks, but that was the only way I could lose weight.

And I realized I asked a very similar question this time last year. Oh well. I'll take any advice I can get.

I couldn't lose until I weaned unfortunately. That was my least favorite part of nursing actually. We weaned at about 17-18 months and then WW worked very quickly.

I don't really have advice, but I am having the same exact problem. I've been doing ediets, plus running, and working out on the non running days, and my weight is just staying the same. Before I had kids, the weight would have been just falling off. I know it's just a lot harder to lose weight when you're nursing, which seems crazy since you're supposed to burn so many extra calories! But anyway, for me, same problem. I'm 5 lbs above my pre pregnancy weight almost a year out, and A is showing no signs of wanting to stop nursing any time soon. I want my body back!!

The only thing that has been working for me is cutting out bread and rice, even whole wheat/grain. I get my carbs mostly from vegetables and fruit. I try to avoid sugar too but have honey on my yogurt for breakfast and sugar in tea once a day. It's really hard for me to lose weight and especially since I'm nursing, I have to be careful I don't cut out too much but this slighly lower carb diet is working for me. I also have been trying to add in good fats for satiety like avocado and baking with almond meal.

I didn't make dietary changes until Bean weaned.
I am going Paleo, and LOVE it!

I think you have to do what works for you. If the scale makes you worry, put it away for a month: get your DH to take measurements in specific areas (bust, waist, hips, arms, chest), write down the numbers, and don't remeasure for 1 month.

              I bet you'll be surprised.
