If you own a treadmill, what is it? Do you like it? What was the cost?

DH and I are probably getting each other a treadmill (cancel the gym membership) and a freezer for Christmas, (I know - exciting!) but I have no idea where to start in buying one. Costco has one that gets good reviews for $600 but then I see them for $2K+. DH said as long as it has a speed of up to a 6 min/mile it was fine. I'm not a treadmill person so I have NO idea what I'm looking for.

    Anyone??

We have a Precor elliptical that we purchased from a place called "Push, Pedal, Pull". We got roughly the same model that we used at the gym (ours was slightly used).

I would look into the treadmills with a longer platform since B is taller. Go and try them out. I wouldn't skimp on cost except in the difference between different features - but the cheaper ones really feel cheap.

I'd have B try them out for stride length. My sister has used one daily for 5 years from Costco, and it still works well. She's a runner.

We got a Reebok 7 years ago that was being discontinued. We got it for 1250 (50% off.) It's held up really well. I agree with GRU; the cheap ones (if 500 can be considered cheap!) feel cheap.

Funny because the Costco one is a Reebok!

my folks have one that they bought from nordic track. I think it is similar to this one. I liked running on it and the surface is fairly wide and long. If I had the extra money, I would try to get one for myself. But sadly, it isn't in the current budget.

That's almost identical to the one I have! It's got a lot of great reviews...it looks like it's worth a shot! Do they let you test it in-store? We have a Sam's Club and they put all the exercise equipment on shelves.

              ETA: Mine is reaaaally loud.

Its online only, not in the store.

As tall as B is, I think a 55" deck might be to small for him. And the wider the belt the better.

We have the Reebok one from Costco ($600). You'll want to go w/the longer base (not 55") for B, my DH is roughly 5'11 and he says it's okay, but would appreciate the extra length. Also, ours is leaking some sort of oil onto our thick treadmill mat, but Costco has no hassle returns (even after a year +) on treadmills. Definitely recommend Costco as a retailer, but this one is probably not the best bet for B if he plans on using it. I jog on ours, it's a bit noisy, but it was what was in the budget & fit in the space. Oh- and the assembly was fantastic from Costco (we bought online too)

The one that I linked to has a 60" deck, which is probably the shortest I would consider for B. If you look at the pic of the one from costco, look at how close her hind foot is to the end of the deck, B probably has a good 8" on her.

                          Sorry, it was embedded... http://www.nordictrack.com/webapp/wc...1_43501_182219

I used it for a while, while living with my parents and I really liked it. There was enough deck cushioning that my knees were okay and it is plenty long. I don't think the belts get a whole lot wider without going up a significant amount.

Cross posted w/you Kris. If you can swing it SS, go for at least a 60 deck. The $600 one is okay, but you get what you pay for. I think my parents got one from Costco for $1100ish last year and it is longer (my dad is tall) and WAY more sturdy than ours.
