  • Achilles' tendon issues

Sigh. So, I hurt my Achilles' tendon on thanksgiving. I noticed it after I ran a few miles on the treadmill. First time I ever felt pain in my tendon. I've rested it since then, and today I was just jogging lightly and it hurts worse than before. It's a constant burn now, and if I flex or point my toe it hurts-- just on the interior side only.

Do I just keep resting? Call the doc? Is there anything I can do? Biking? I'm having a hard time thinking of any cardio that doesn't involve flexing or pointing my toes...

So frustrating getting older. I swear my body is just falling apart. If its not my knees hurting, it's something else...

I would get it checked out. I wish I had done the same for a ligament injury in my ankle - had to have it reconstructed 2 years ago.
If you can, go straight to an ortho who specializes in ankle/foot, and they will probably order an MRI. Better safe than sorry.

I agree. Get it checked. You could have a partial tear.

ITA. Particularly when something is constantly burning.

Get it checked. Maggie's pt taught me how to tape it and insists on icing as much as possible when she's dancing a lot.

Get it checked out. I completely ruptured mine when I was about 29? It hurt like crazy but now that I can add having three kids and recovering from a C section I don't think it hurt that badly.

Tomorrow afternoon. I swear. I will put in a reminder on my phone!!!

Pain is decreasing. Of course I've not been able to exercise since thanksgiving bc I don't want to aggravate it. I have an appointment next week. Ugh.

I probably will try just biking or something on Friday. I feel like a total cow!

I'm sorry. I know the feeling. My alarm didn't go off today and DD didn't make it to school thus I didn't make it to the gym since they discontinued childcare last month.

Let us know what the doc says. Rest rest rest!!

Me too! Do you foam roll? If not, it's life changing, and I highly recommend it. There are good "how-to's" on pinterest. "the stick" and the trigger point system are similar at home myofascial release gadgets - which I think work a little better than a standard foam roller on the Achilles. But foam rolling on a regular basis Is a great way to prevent future injuries (or deal with old ones after you are done with PT).

hopefully you've totally recovered and this is a moot point...

I'm glad you posted this because I needed the reminder to buy a roller. I have some pain that I think could be helped by a roller!

Thanks for mentioning that--- my doc didn't. I have recovered but went sprinting with the dog over our mini vacation (I was racing my dd11 like the 37yo competitive idiot I am) and felt some twinges the next day. So... I definitely need to strengthen my Achilles more (and probably grow up a little too).

Will look into the foam roller!!
