  • Food before workouts

What do you eat before working out? I typically don't eat anything. I work out in the morning and skip breakfast. My workouts are 2 hours and I'm not making it through them anymore. I need to eat something but I don't want to a nauseated through the workout.

    Suggestions?

I usually have a granola bar or some kind of breakfast/snack bar. Its not much, but it gives me the energy I need to work out.

Mine are only about 30-45 minutes, but I like to do a couple of boiled eggs (4 weight watchers points), especially if I'm doing weights.

I do a hard boiled egg/one egg white (the dog gets the second yolk). Not too filling but gives you energy. I do a 90 minute workout with lots of weird twisting so a full tummy is definitely not something I want!

I'll try the eggs. I usually scramble eggs for breakfast for me and Phe but it's way too much effort and doesn't sit that well for jumping around or weights. But I could easily hard boil a few once a week. They might sit better.

I'd mostly just listen to your body. What makes you feel energetic but not heavy? I always used to do best if I got some moderate-GI carbs, like some whole grains or something, along with a bit of protein then let it digest about 30-40 minutes before working out. Then a recovery meal/snack of quicker carbs and a serious protein hit to jump-start glycogen storage and muscle repair.

I used to do a banana before my 90 minute workouts. Sometimes I would have half a granola bar if I was famished. I also used to work out at 4am, so my body wasn't really up for long before I started warming up!

In that scenario, I usually have a couple tablespoons of almond butter.

If I eat at all, I also do the nut butters. Quick and easy.

Is there a magical way to eat a cold hardboiled egg? I find them a pain to peel, and they honestly gag me. It would be convenient though to have some made ahead of time to grab.

I can't eat them cold either. If I have them, I cook them right before (and usually end up burning my tongue).

Ummmm. I don't know if I've ever had a warm hard-boiled egg But I also don't eat the yolks.
