What supplements do you take? I'm wondering if I should start taking B6 because ever since going on BCP I've been exhausted

400mg of Cal Mag 1x day, before bed

    I keep a few other things on-hand:
1,000mg Vit C (as calcium ascorbate) capsules
    L-Lysine
Bach's Rescue Remedy (also made for pets now)
    Acidophilus
    Prenatal Vitamins

Prenatal vitamins + Fish oil is all for right now. I was thinking about adding a b-complex too, because I recently stopped taking BCP and my cycle is still all messed up. I read somewhere that B-6 or a combo could help get back to normal. In the past I've also supplemented calcium+D depending on the content of my current prenatals. I used to take more C - usually in the form of Emergen-C if I was feeling run-down, but DH has scared me off of that because excess C contributes to kidney stone formation.

Prenatal, green tea extract, Vitamin D, cranberry, and acidophilus (plus Claritin and L-lysine sometimes). Thirteen, do you notice a difference with the Bach's? I tried it but didn't seem to notice a difference? Maybe because my anxiety is of rx proportions MsSassy, which fish oil do you take? I'm not a fan of burping up fishy taste but was thinking about taking them again.

I just take two store-brand 300-mg softgels right before I eat my biggest meal of the day. I think taking them before food helps to avoid the fish burps - I haven't noticed a problem unless I have forgotten and then taken them without food. Studies have shown a reduction in cortisol (stress hormone) from taking fish oil, so I take it as much for the stress/anxiety help as for the cardiovascular benefits.

I do flax instead of fish. however, I do not know how it works with the cortisol issue.

Cod Liver Oil (no fish burps! Gelcaps gave me horrifying fish burps)
              a food-derived multi
              GABA
              L-tyrosine
              5-HTP
Melatonin at night - works better than ambien!!

Prenatal viatmins (currently the Target version of the VItafusion gummies) and calcium + vitamin D (generic version of Citracal, I think). I took prescription prenatals prior to getting pregnant and in my first trimester, but with the exception of the ones with extra b6 and ginger to help with nausea, I don't think they were that great.

I had severe rheumatic fever as a child and I think all the horse-sized pills I had to take psychologically damaged me! I can swallow pills, but I hate it. I don't take any supplements you have to swallow. Centrum makes a grape-flavored tasty supplement for adults (they look like little gum balls) and I can do children's chewables.

I never took prenatal vitamins because the iron made me REALLY sick.

GMW, the horse pills scare me too! That's one of the reasons why I shied away from the fish oil ones for a while but I'm gonna give the cod liver oil a shot.

NP Pearl , if you freeze the fish oil capsules you may not get the fish burps!!! They will usually pass into the duodenum before thawing out!!!!!!!!!!!

Does/did anyone else feel terrible when they take prenatal vitamins?

I started about 7 months ago, but have recently stopped. They seem to mess with my stomach/digestion, make me feel bloated, and seem to drain my energy. I've tried three different brands... Same thing. I have no issue taking multi-vitamins.

I know I need to take them, but about a month ago I just stopped. I felt better almost immediately.

JDAZ, have you tried the gummy ones? I'm super sensitive to most things and haven't had a problem with those. LSW, not sure about the other ladies but my doc said that BCP depletes your body of folic acid so I'm supposed to take them in conjunction with prenatals. But yeah, I feel weird taking them Meenah, I'll try freezing the fish oil when I work up the courage to try them again!

We are trying-ish, so that's why I was trying to take them. It hasn't been working, so I'm taking a break until we start really trying.

Haven't tried gummies - ill look for some.

I kind of feel like I have an absurdly healthy balanced diet also, so I'm not sure that I really need additional supplements - and they are usually so expensive (just like the healthy diet!). I generally eat less when I take a multi-vitamin, so that may be my twisted motivation there. I notice the same thing if I take a B-complex (I rarely do, but bought them once on the rec of a Pilates instructor and every so often remember I felt good while taking them).

I do occasionally take supplements for joint pain - I've tried so many! I've had less of an issue with my joints since we moved - no one to play tennis with, and haven't found a super hard workout yet. The one that helped most was some collagen, msm, something else (not glucosamine, which I never found to be very helpful) blend.

I'll also take some fiber or put chia seeds in a smoothy occasionally.
