  • My *new* 2014 weight loss blog

Because I feel too bad going back to the old one and realizing I didn't stick with it.

    I'm going to try again.

I won't be able to keep up with Ladybug's beautiful blog though ... fair warning.

So here's the deal: I thought I gained 20 pounds this summer. I weighed and in fact, I gained 33.6. This number left me startled and upset. I can't believe that I gained that much weight. It really makes me sad. 5 years ago or so, I was celebrating a 65-70 pound loss. Now I have regained all of that with the exception of ~ 8 pounds.

I'm using that 8 pounds as a mental starting place. I haven't gained it *all* back.

Yesterday, I got started on trying to fix the food problem. I bought Atkins protein shakes and had them for breakfast, lunch, and snacks (to help me control the calories I take in). Then I ate a regular dinner (with carbs, because no carbs isn't going to happen). I did okay. I felt guilty even eating (but hello, a girl has to eat) and I did cheat with 2 cheese sticks. Overall, it was a much better day than I have been having though. Hopefully, this routine will work for me and will help me ramp down the calories. I do a lot of mindless eating throughout the day and the shake thing was really helpful. I'll just need to watch it now at night.

Exercising is a whole different ball game though. Last time when I lost weight, I was walking an hour (at least) every day. Right now, I can't walk because of the plantar fasciitis. I tried last night and lasted 10 minutes.

I have decided to focus on mobility right now. I have developed arthritis in my hips and lower back and have avascular necrosis. My mobility is limited, and I have a lot of pain. I am focusing on stretches to help my hip/lower back and increase my mobility. I also will be doing sit ups. That's for this week. I'd like to eventually go to the Y and ride the bike there (less pressure on my foot). I'm not game to put this body into a swimsuit right now ... but maybe eventually.

So that's my plan for now. If I don't touch base in a week or two, hold my feet to the fire.

I think you have a great plan to get started again! If you're ever in the cities on the second or fourth Tuesday of the month between 5-6 pm, you might consider going into Marathon Sports at 50th and Penn. Dr. Christine Liesz does office hours there to consult on injuries and appropriate footwear. She and the awesome store associates could help you pick out the right pair of running/walking shoes for your footfall--they really know their stuff. And yes, it's a running store but they are so so so nice and always give discounts. They are the chosen outfitter for a lot of the Komen walks, so they are accustomed to working with women who are not runners. Even if you don't go while Dr. Liesz is there, it's a great spot to find the right athletic shoes.

Today has not gone as planned, so I've had to recalculate. DH is home and took me out for breakfast. No shake. I had the 330 calorie omelet. At lunchtime I felt really hungry, so I opted for a 1/2 sandwich and yogurt. Tonight we are all going out for dinner. I've decided to order what I want (cheeseburger/french fries) and to request a to-go box at the beginning of the meal. I'll immediately cut the portion in half and eat only half. This way I don't feel denied and don't overdo it. Thoughts?

Can you ask for the cheeseburger with a side salad instead of fries? If I do order a burger, that's what I do (I also don't eat the bun, or I just take off the top bun and eat the burger plus the bottom bun with a fork and knife).

I think the breakfast sounds great. Lunch sounds good, but it's hard to say for sure without seeing the sandwich. I'd say if you can skip the fries (you could likely have a bite of someone else's at the table), you'd be in really good shape today.

I like jdazs idea. The fries are going to set you back 600-800 calories...even half Of that is too much.

I like red robin because I can get a lettuce wrapped burger and a bunch of different non fry options. And still sneak some of DHs bottomless fries

I'm no expert, but I think that sounds great. I'm an everything in moderation gal and won't stick with a plan if I feel deprived. A life without fries isn't worth living as far as I'm concerned .

It sounds like you have long term goals, so IMHO I think you should make changes that you can maintain long term. Your plan for today cut calories by reducing your normal portion size. That's a win in my book. You can always take more drastic measures if you find this isn't working, but I think keeping these life style changes small right now is a good thing and minimizes your risk of falling off the wagon.
