The race I'm going to sign up for has several trail bits, and some steep bits (there's a .4 mile Strava segment on the route that averages 5.6%). I'm currently doing two shorter and one longer run per week, ramping up to where I'm now at a total of 15 miles. It's a nice comfortable starting point. Fortunately since the route is so close, I can practice parts of it.
The start/finish is about a mile from my house, and the furthest point is 5 miles away. I had a good effort today, 7 minutes at an average HR over 180. Getting stronger. I figure I'll start a 12 week training plan near the end of this month (the race is in August).
