• 3 pounds to go to reach my end of the year goal -- I think I just need to be mindful the next few weeks of what I put in my mouth. 😄
By far (for me) the best thing about working out is feeling stronger, and remembering certain exercises that needed modification a year ago.

I should be on track to start signing up for 5K races again in spring. I could probably run them now, but it's best to get a little more weight off so joint impact is minimized.

Sounds doable. I've never done a 5K race but I know that finding a way to keep up the exercise will be important for me during the winter. Hopefully you've got a more amenable climate.

• SIL, DH and I got into our usual conversation about health / weight loss over Thanksgiving. Neither of them have ever truly struggled with weight and both are on the skinnier ends of their own spectrums. (DH has dropped from 137 to 130, which he tracks after dinner and not at the beginning of the day like normal people. SIL says she's 110lbs). They were both making their helpful comments: I haven't lost weight because I don't work out enough, or hard enough, or I eat too much, or not enough of SOMETHING, or the combination of all the things I've tried simply isn't good enough. That's when something that's been forming in my mind for months finally surfaced: I'm done trying to lose weight. It occurred to me and I announced it, because sometimes I wonder if DH wants me to lose weight more than I do. I've been unsuccessfully trying to lose weight for over 3 years. I've tried every variation of exercise / diet I can imagine. I'm tired of feeling like a failure for not having success. I'm tired of not allowing myself to feel gorgeous because I'm heavier than I'd like. I also told DH the entire time he's known me I've been trying to lose weight. Even when I was 20lbs lighter I was still trying to shed pounds. He wasn't thrilled but had to accept it.

So I'm transitioning back to paleo after the holiday week. Craving carbs but doing pretty well. Came home and joined a gym in walking distance so I don't have to drive / valet at the nicer facility. I'm embarking on the mantra my yoga teacher has been trying to get into my head all year: I should love my body. It does amazing things. It plays the cello, and teaches students how to. It bends and does headstands, it runs (slowly) on the treadmill. It's kept me well for 29 years. It's time to start enjoying it, and forget how I'd prefer it to be.

I did promise DH that if my weight spikes I'll go back on a diet.

• Good for you MAPPLEBUM!!! I so identify with what you wrote. I spent this past week with super thin extended family members all over the age of 50 who are STILL starving themselves and my pregnant sister who's replaced bulimia with obsessive and minimal eating. Major wake up call. How many hours, days, weeks has my family, me included, wasted obsessing over appearances!?! How freaking sad. So yeah, I'm joining you. I'm done trying to lose 10 pounds for the sake of vanity and looking good in a bikini. I'll still eat healthy most of the time and exercise but damn it life is short and I'm going to spend more of it thinking beyond my own ass and thighs.

• I think that's a wonderful decision, MAPPLEBUM. You look great, and it sounds like you're feeling great. I hope your DH stops pressuring you to lose weight; it's not his place, and it's not helpful.

• Ran 4 miles today. First day with the compression sleeves. I think they helped, but it also might have been the almost two week break I took. Felt so good to be back outside, and the weather was perfect - crisp but sunny.
