• The beginning is really hard. Don't give up! When I started, I started with South Beach, and those first two weeks ("phase one - no sugar or carbs) was really hard. I had no energy to work out, and I just felt miserable. TMI, but my digestive system still doesn't seem to have fully recovered. But... The good news is that your body adjusts its calorie expectations within a week or so, and dropping calories isn't so hard after that. Power through, and keep filling up on those good veggies (limit fruit to about 1-2 per day if you can for the first couple weeks). You can do this!

    • PrincessFiona, I wonder if you should hold off weighing for awhile. Even *mostly* sticking to NutriSystem you'll make progress. But it definitely won't happen as quickly as you'd like. By not weighing you can feel good at the end of the day / week that you've stuck to the diet as much as you have, then feel fucking amazing when you take that walk or work out on the elliptical. Here's where I'm at with it. I've failed at losing weight for so many years I know the stages I go through, feeling like I have to do this NOW why am I not seeing the results? This is so hard, and then finally: fuck it. We go back to our normal habits because it feels better. Shaming yourself into losing weight feels terrible. So how can I make good choices FEEL better than my normal habits? I don't really have the answer but I know I've felt, for the most part, fucking amazing now that I'm not weighing anymore. The good decisions I make I feel really great about, and I'm trying to focus on that. Hoping that instead of shaming for all the ways I've failed myself I'll want more and more of the good choices. Because now I'm letting myself feel proud about them.

But all of this is only because I've failed at getting what I want for so many years. I had to admit that system no longer serves me.

      • I'm stopping weighing myself more than once a week for now. The little ups and downs have too much of an effect on me.

We have been doing a lot better at not eating out so much and dieting helps that. I don't want to spend money on meh food. And the bowl of chips last night did me in. I told DH we should try and keep it to once a week for dinner and maybe a few lunches

        • MAPPLEBUM that's so true. I've never walked as much as I have been since I got the Fitbit about 3 weeks ago and I feel really good. I don't own a scale but have maintained the same pants size for about 3 years now. I made the mistake of weighing myself in the hotel gym today. Why? So I could see if I lost a ton of weight from walking every day? Why does it matter if the scale moved if I know that I feel better? Well, my pants feel looser (and I'm wearing two pairs because it freaking freezing in Washington) but the scale is the same. The scale is just a number but the way you feel and how much you move is what really matters, right? So which do I let choose if I'm a failing or succeeding?

All I know is that as an unhealthy 15 year old that weighed like nothing, I felt way more self conscious and fat than I do now.

          • I'm anti scale. I weigh myself like once a month... Unless I'm trying to lose weight and then it's every week, but then I also do measurements and photos. Because, muscle.

I'm on day 3 in a row of working out! Day 1 of logging my food. So many vegetables!

Thanks for the inspiration ladies and gents!

I'm sorry! That stinks. Working out seems to help my anxiety. But I hear you with having to make all these decisions and keep to restrictions. You can't just default to something anymore. Maybe pre plan your meals and have everything ready in advance/meal prep to make it easier?

                    • 3.2 miles today - upped the run to 1.5, .5, then 1 back home. Listening to my pelvic floor (&#128514 and not trying to burn through the whole run until I condition more. It was cold (below 50 here), so I bundled up DS2 in a down bunting and we were off. He enjoyed it!

Barely made it to the gym this morning but glad I did. I've been stressing the fuck out about everything I need to get done before we go on vacation Saturday and then I realized -- the high school I go to on Thursdays are having finals! I can either take the day or use it for preemptive make ups!! Yayyyy

and JustRightKelly you're absolutely killing it! Can't wait to hear about Spokane!

                          • Did upper body and a little core at the gym today. Still catching up after slacking off over Christmas. My weight is back down to where it was in early December, and I hoping to lose those last few pounds to hit my goal by the end of this month or early February.

                            • I've jumped in to weight watchers and working out. This may not have been the greatest idea since I did it impulsively.

First week, I've done well sticking to my points and I've worked out every day, in one way or another. I'm weighing on Thursdays (my day off from my part time gig) but skipped last week since it was only 2 days in to my diet. Let's hope it goes well!
