I have decided that the only way I can keep up with our garden is to prep things as soon as I pick them. Otherwise they sit on the counter for way too long.

Just picked two pumpkins, one little, one huge. What's the best way to prep these for use in soup, bread, etc? Better to steam and puree them? Cut them into chunks? Something else?

I want to say that you usually cut them into quarters, get rid of the seeds, and boil them (and puree) to get the nice mushy stuff that I normally get from a can.

    Could be wrong though.

I do LOVE pumpkin though! How awesome to have them in a garden

I think I'd chunk and steam. Depends how thick the rind is if I'd peel first or just scrape the cooked pulp out afterward.

I hear you, I peeled and seeded 5 pounds of tomatoes yesterday because they just kept sitting! I need to pit a ton of plums and peel and core some pears too!
