  • Stump the Chef: Shrimp

So I have some frozen shrimp that I need to use. I also have cous cous, lemon, and fresh cilantro. I'd love to throw those all together with some veggies and call it a day but my DH loves spicy food. Are there particular spices that I could coat the shrimp in to make them spicy? I'd be happy to make two versions but since I don't like spicy, I don't know what to do. I don't even know what combinations to put together.

I had a blackened shrimp recipe that I've misplaced.

    *sigh*

I'm a good cook but he still spices everything since he grew up eating really spicy. Normally he'll eat anything without complaint but he doesn't like shrimp all that much. Still, I'm forcing it in the rotation so any ideas would be welcomed...

I make a Malaysian soup that is spicy.

    Chicken broth
    coconut milk
    ginger
    garlic
    crushed red pepper
    lime juice
    shrimp
noodles (any kind you have, angel hair works well too)
    cilantro

Proportions are whatever you have or want. I usually add some chicken breast too. I don't use a recipe, but if you google "Kari Mee" you will find many recipes for ideas. It can be made as hot as you want.

Cilantro and lemon make me think Mexican. So I would make the couscous and season it with the cilantro and lemon. I would sauté the shrimp in salsa (mild) and then serve it over the couscous. I'd have some sort of hot sauce on the side for him to add as he wanted.

I would search in allrecipes for blackened seasoning mix and then sort by ratings. I'm sure you'll find a good one there if you'd rather the blackened route.
